About this ebook

It's not just physical...

***ELLEN***
Lonely.
Alone.
There's a distinct difference between the two, but what happens when you're not one or the other, but both? Four years ago, I lost my old man and a part of myself. My son is the only thing keeping me going.
I thought a casual relationship was the answer to my loneliness, but being the princess of the Death Dealers MC keeps the men away. As my brother's best friend and VP, Einstein seemed to be the perfect candidate. I tried to seduce him, but he may have changed the rules of the game. Dr. Jon Emerson wants to heal a part of me that's broken.
I only wanted to give him my body, but will he claim my heart as well?

***EINSTEIN***
Sex.
Making love.
The two acts are worlds apart, and I'm tired of the former. Endless encounters with random women have never been fulfilling. I want more. I never thought Ellen Hunter would be the one to give it to me. Not only is she my best friend's little sister, but the mother of a fallen brother's child. She thinks she can fill the void in her life with meaningless sex, but I'll be the first to tell her it's useless.
She's opened my eyes to what we could be together, and I won't let her walk away. I'll teach her that seduction is not just physical. Her body may be all she's offering, but I want it all.
She'll let me in, even if I have to break down every wall she's built around her heart.

    PROLOGUE

    ***Ellen***

I’m the princess of the Death Dealers MC. No one can touch me.

    Literally.

It’s been four years since I lost my old man, and I haven’t been with anyone else. Haven’t even dated. I wasn’t ready before, but I am now. The problem is none of the men I know will come close to me. They’re either scared to death of Gage, my brother—the president of the MC—or Chopper, my father and former president.

However, I think I may have found the perfect candidate—Einstein, my brother’s VP and best friend. I don’t know how I overlooked him all this time. He’s hot, and he may just be exactly what I need.

    Let Operation Seduce Einstein begin.

    Six weeks ago

Sitting at the clubhouse bar, I stare at the club logo on the wall—a grim reaper dealing the death card from a tarot deck. As the daughter of the former president of the Death Dealers MC, the image is all too familiar. I think I knew what a reaper was before I could even talk. The club motto is inscribed on the motorcycle muffler beneath the logo—Death before disloyalty. These men take that motto seriously. Four years after the death of my old man, they’re still as loyal to him as they were when he was alive.

There’s a party going on. My brother, the current president of the MC, just got back from Jacksonville, where he was handling club business. Members from another club, the Black Snakes, are here as well. The clubhouse is teeming with men, and I’m here sulking over my beer while my four-year-old son sleeps in my father’s room in the back.

    Such a glamorous life.

Rolling my eyes, I turn and lean against the bar. A couple guys are deep into a competitive game of pool. Groups of men are gathered around the pinball machine and the video poker, and even more are around the PlayStation. Smoke swirls around the room, a mixture of cigars, cigarettes, and weed, the scents mixing with all the leather and testosterone. I should grab my son and go home, but I just don’t want to be alone tonight.

    Hey, Ellen!

I turn to see Raven, my brother’s old lady, heading toward me, clutching a blonde’s hand.

    Salvation.

Hey, girl. Thank God you’re here. I was about to lose my mind.

With all these hot guys running around here? the blonde asks.

Ellen, this is Dana. She’s Ace’s old lady, Raven introduces us, then turns to Dana, explaining, Ellen is Gage’s sister.

Ace. The president of the Black Snakes. I’ve seen him around here before, and he’s hot.

    Nice to meet you, Dana.

    You, too.

Dana orders a beer from the Hellhound working the bar, and Raven gets a soda. She’s only a few weeks shy of her nineteenth birthday, engaged to the president of a motorcycle club, and can’t legally have an alcoholic beverage. Someone tell me what’s wrong with that picture.

So, Ellen… Dana was right. Why haven’t you snagged one of these men? Raven asks.

I’m Chopper’s daughter and Gage’s sister. That’s enough to keep them at bay. That or they still see me as Eddie’s old lady. None of them will touch me.

Bummer, Dana says, taking a pull of her beer.

Tell me about it. It’s not like I’m looking for a patch. I just wanna get laid.

What about Dr. E? Raven asks. Seems if there’s anyone who wouldn’t be afraid of Chopper or Gage, it would be him.

Tipping my head to the side, I follow Raven’s gaze, regarding Einstein carefully. He’s Gage’s best friend, and I’ve known him forever. The women’s voices fade into the background.

That cute one in the corner? Dana asks.

    Yep, that’s him, Raven confirms.

And he’s a doctor? Like a real doctor?

    A gynecologist.

Fuck, girl. I say go for it. I bet he could teach you a thing or two.

As Dana and Raven laugh, my lips curl up into a smile, and I rattle the idea around my brain.

I never thought about it. You might be right, though. Einstein would be perfect.

Maybe I should go talk to him… see if he’d be interested.

Dana screams and grabs my hand, pulling both Raven and me behind her to the middle of the bar. The women sandwich me between them, writhing against me as Pour Some Sugar On Me blasts around us. When I look back to where Einstein is standing, our eyes meet and I start to move, using the opportunity to gauge his reaction. I haven’t danced like this in a long time, but with Einstein’s eyes on me, the sexy show seems to come naturally. A plan begins to form in my mind, and I smirk to myself.

I think a checkup from the good doctor is in order.

    CHAPTER 1

    ***Einstein***

    Present

    I do.

At thirty-three, those are two words I thought I would have said by now. But here I am with no wife. Not even a girlfriend. Not even a prospective girlfriend. This is why I hate going to weddings, but there’s no way I would miss this one.

My best friend is married. I can’t believe it. I just watched Gage Hunter, the man who’s always said he’ll never have an old lady or a kid, stand before a priest with a grin on his face. Not only that, but Raven is six weeks into her pregnancy. That’s right—a woman and a baby. I couldn’t be happier for him. We’ve been best friends forever, so it’s great to see him find his true love and settle down, start a family.

    So why am I jealous?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Raven like a sister, and Gage is my brother. I guess I’m envious of what he has. Everything he’s never wanted is everything I’ve always craved. I want an old lady. I want the kids and the house with the white picket fence. I want it all. I just can’t seem to find the right woman. I’m a doctor, the fucking holy grail of husbands, and I can’t find a wife. Granted, I haven’t dated in a while, and I haven’t fucked any of the club girls—Hellhounds—in years either. Don’t see the point in wasting my time. I’d rather jack off than have meaningless sex every night. Being around my brothers, I know I’m in the minority, but at least now my best friend will understand. If I’d told Gage any of this shit before Raven, I would have been the constant butt of his jokes. Just look at him now.

Maybe being a member of the MC is what’s holding me back. Men like us don’t exactly attract the right kind of women. But Gage gives me hope. Raven is a good woman, and they’re perfect for each other. I just need to wait. Patiently.

My eyes land on Gage in the middle of a crowd, the discomfort evident on his face. Chuckling, I make my way over to rescue him.

    Congrats, bro!

Relief floods his features as he turns to face me. I extend my hand, but instead of shaking it, he pulls me into a one-armed hug. When he releases me, I lead him away from the throng.

Thanks, man. I’m officially off the market.

Please. You’ve been off the market since you met that girl.

Yeah. He chuckles. I guess so.

His gaze moves eagerly over the gathering in the reception hall, no doubt seeking out Raven. When he finds her on the dance floor with her new father-in-law, a smile settles on his lips. I doubt he even knows he’s doing it.

Look who’s itching to jump into the marital bed. I laugh. You’re an old married man now. Say goodbye to all the freaky shit.

He raises a brow. Fuck that shit. It’s just getting started, brother.

I chuckle as he returns his attention to his wife. Following his line of sight, I see her moving toward us. She glances around carefully, making sure no one is watching, then smirks. The gesture she makes probably has Gage going crazy.

See that? he says. My baby just put out the bat signal. Old married man, my ass.

Just wait ’til that ‘brand new’ feeling wears off. You’ll see, I tease.

Yeah, whatever. Stop worrying about me and go get some pussy before your dick falls off from lack of use.

Don’t you worry about my dick, motherfucker, I tell him.

Raven walks up, sliding her arm around Gage’s waist. We’re talking about dicks?

Yeah. This one that I got for you. Ready to go? Gage asks.

I’m kinda tired. Movie and chill?

    Movie and what? he exclaims.

Raven giggles and I can’t contain my laughter.

"Yeah, we can watch La Bamba," she adds.

Even I can see she’s teasing him, but now he realizes it, too.

As long as you make monkey bread, he says, indicating this is an inside joke.

Oh, I have some monkey bread for you, all right.

Okay, that’s my cue to leave, I say, not needing to hear the rest of this conversation. I’ll see you two… whenever.

Bye, Dr. E. Raven waves as I walk away.

My best friend—always impatient—rushes out the door with his bride. Fucker couldn’t even wait for his own wedding reception to end.

    Hey, Einstein.

I turn to find Ellen, Gage’s sister, smiling up at me. Hey, beautiful. Great party you put together here.

She blushes. It can’t be because I called her beautiful since I do that all the time. Maybe I’m misreading her expression. She must be flattered at the compliment about the reception. She’s just starting out, but from what I’ve seen, her event planning business will be a huge success.

    Thanks. Um… wanna dance?

    Sure.

I take her hand, twirling her as I lead her to the dance floor. She giggles, but it’s cut short when I tug her into my arms. Hers curl around my neck as she leans in close.

You know, you fill out that suit pretty nicely, Dr. Emerson.

Well, it can’t always be leather and jeans, now can it?

    I guess not.

She goes quiet, resting her cheek on my chest as we sway to the music. The scent of her perfume floats into my nostrils when I take a deep breath. It’s things like this that I look forward to when I have an old lady—holding her close, slow dancing to our favorite love song, falling asleep in each other’s arms.

Einstein? Ellen says as she tips her face up to meet my gaze.

    Hmm?

How come we’ve never hooked up?

The question throws me off balance. Where is this coming from?

    What do you mean?

Come on. We’re a walking romance novel—the little sister and the brother’s best friend. Why hasn’t it happened?

Well…. I pause, considering the notion. I guess I never looked at you that way. Her eyes fall to my chest, and I quickly catch myself. You’re a beautiful woman, Ellen. It’s just… you’ve always been Gage’s little sister. I’ve never thought about it.

Will you? she asks, hope shining in her eyes.

    Will I what?

    Think about it.

Clasping her hand in mine, I lead her out of the reception area to find a quiet place to talk. The ballroom is packed, so I end up heading outside. When I find a secluded spot, I turn to face her.

Okay, talk to me, Ellen. What’s going on?

    What do you mean?

I mean why, after all this time, you suddenly want to ‘hook up’?

I’m just…. Her shoulders slump in resignation. "I’m lonely, Einstein. It’s been four years since Eddie died. I need some human contact. Every guy I know keeps a wide berth because they’re afraid of Gage or Daddy. Or they look at me and see Eddie’s old lady. I’m sick of it."

Wait… are you saying there’s been no one since Eddie?

That’s exactly what I’m saying. I think my cooch is closing up from lack of use.

I chuckle, not only at her turn of phrase, but that it proves she’s Gage’s sister. Just a few minutes ago, he told me my dick will fall off for the same reason.

    You think it’s funny?

    No, beautiful. I don’t.

Why are we even talking right now? She moves forward, sliding her hands under my jacket. We could go back to your place. Mikey is staying with Daddy tonight.

Ellen…. I carefully remove her hands.

Oh, God. Not you, too! she exclaims in exasperation.

It’s not that. I’m not going to take advantage of you.

You’re not. I want this. I just want to have some fun.

    You can’t—

Can’t what? she demands. You’re cowards, the whole lot of you! Outlaw MC, my ass. All the men in Stony View, too. If none of you want a ready and willing woman, I’ll just have to go out and find someone who does.

I grab her hand before she can storm off. You need to be careful, Ellen. Everyone knows who you are. You know how many people out there would jump at a chance of getting back at the MC through you?

Then I guess I’ll just have to go someplace where no one knows me, huh?

She twists out of my grip, marching back toward the building. Fuck me. I follow, intent on keeping a close eye on her. I wasn’t being dramatic. She could get into serious trouble. Especially since she’s so small. She can’t be more than 5ʹ3ʺ. Motherfuckers will look at that as a weakness.

I wasn’t trying to brush her off either. Ellen is gorgeous. All that thick, shiny brown hair, those sapphire eyes, and a curvy body built for driving a man crazy. I did mean what I said, though; I’ve never seen her as more than Gage’s little sister. Hell, she’s been like a little sister to me.

When I walk back into the reception hall, I find her working once more, talking to the caterer. Still, I’m not dismissing what she said. In her emotional state of mind, she might do something she’ll regret.

I spot our new prospect by the buffet and head in his direction.

    Prospect.

    Yes, sir.

His plate almost falls from his hand, but he catches it and gives me his full attention. I jerk my head in Ellen’s direction.

Keep an eye on her. From now on, you’re her shadow. You see anything out of the ordinary, you let me know. Got it?

    Yes, sir.

I hope she doesn’t make good on her threat, but if she does, I’ll be there to make sure she’s safe.

    ***Ellen***

Stupid, Ellen. I should have known Einstein wouldn’t be any different. I’m doomed to be alone forever. That is, unless I leave Stony View. Leave everything and everyone I love behind, removing Mikey from the only environment he knows, the only family he has. Eddie was estranged from his family so I never even met them. They know nothing about me and Mikey.

It sucks balls growing up in a small town. Everybody knows everybody, and that’s my problem.

After my little talk with Einstein, I came back to the reception and kept myself busy. If I didn’t, I would have done something that is not in my nature, like sleeping with strange men. I was a virgin when I got with Eddie, and he’s still the only man I’ve been with. But I need some lovin’. The only reason I’ve thought of hooking up with someone in the MC is because I know them. I know none of them would hurt me—physically, at least. I don’t intend for it to be more than a mutually beneficial sexual relationship; I’ve had an old man, and I’m not looking for another one. However, none of them have even looked in my direction.

When Raven suggested Einstein, I thought for sure he’d be the one. He’s practically part of the family. Daddy and Aunt Nita love him. Not to mention he’s gorgeous. I always thought he was cute, but lately he’s seemed so much more. He’s always so neat. There’s never a stray lock of his dark hair. His hazel eyes seem to sparkle, and the man has a pair of lips I would give anything to feel on mine… and other places. Even his black-rimmed glasses are sexy. He’s so tall, too. And after our dance, I’m pretty sure there’s an amazing body lurking under that suit. I’ve been giving him all the signs for weeks now, so either I’ve lost my feminine wiles, or he really just sees me as his friend’s sister.

With a heavy sigh, I pull my phone out of my purse to check on my baby. Daddy left with him right after the bride and groom ducked out, along with most of the guests. That’s just like my brother, too, to run out on his own party. There’s a text from Raven, so I read that first.

Raven: Sorry for leaving early but… you know your brother.

Ellen: Don’t worry about it. Just enjoy your wedding night.

A part of me crumbles as I type the words. I’m happy for Gage, and Raven’s been my sister long before they got married, but I wish I could have had that with Eddie. We were engaged when I got pregnant with Mikey, but we decided to wait until after he was born to get married and get our ink. Eddie was killed three weeks before Mikey came into the world. My poor baby will never know his father.

Raven: I will! Gotta go. Gage is coming back. Time for round 3! Lol

Ellen: Ewwww!! I don’t want to know about my brother’s sex life.

She sends me back a smiley with its tongue out and an eggplant. It makes me smile, but it also reminds me what I’m not getting. Crap. I check in with Daddy, then tie things up with the venue owner.

    Time to head home.

As I walk to my car, I notice the new prospect following me. No doubt my father gave him that task. It’s great having someone look out for you, but sometimes I just wish I could escape from the shadow of my family and the Death Dealers. After the short drive, I pull into my driveway, waving to the prospect on my way to the front door. I consider him for a moment. He’s cute—dirty blond hair just past his shoulders, dark, brooding eyes that give him an air of mystery. He’s a bit skinny for my taste, but I don’t exactly have the luxury of being picky. Stop, Ellen. I shake my head, reminding myself he’s only nineteen. Younger men don’t appeal to me.

    Thanks, Tyler. See you tomorrow.

    Welcome, ma’am.

As I lock the door, I hear him ride off. I drag myself upstairs and take a shower. Today was a bad day. I miss Eddie every minute of every day, but ones like this? They’re extra hard. Finding one of his club T-shirts in my drawer, I trail my fingers over the letters printed on the front—Watchdog. He earned the name because he was fiercely protective of his brothers. Eventually, he was the same with me. It’s one of the reasons I fell in love with him, and why he was Gage’s sergeant. My brother trusted him above all others to have his six.

The MC. That stupid club, with its stupid rules, and stupid… everything. Sometimes I loathe it. I was born into the life; before Eddie, I wouldn’t have traded it for the world. Then it stole everything from me.

I slip into the shirt and climb under the covers, hugging his pillow the way I do every night. He died before it could even be his pillow. We’d moved in for about a week before he was taken from me.

Eddie, I miss you. Why did you have to leave me?

The tears stream down my cheeks, and my heart breaks all over again. I loved that man with
