The Upside Episode 1 - Goria Matthews
Sterling typed at his computer display as he recalled his events from the day. His blog post lay blank and unfinished, but as his brain went into autopilot, he began to remember where his day had truly begun. It all started with the conversation he and Marvin had early this morning.
You’re in your 20’s now, Sterling. I think it’s time we start thinking about investing!
Sterling and his friend Marvin sat at the local diner of Protawn, Pennsylvania. It was a little rundown restaurant with torn up leather seating and stained flooring, but the food was to die for, and the staff treated you well, like family. The restaurant was named Hennington’s, and as Sterling and Marvin sat in the farthest booth on the right for breakfast like they tried to multiple times a week, Sterling went over the menu items accordingly.
Steak and eggs?
He asked. Or should I get the cinnamon roll?
I'm serious, Sterling.
Marvin insisted as he sipped from a mug of coffee. We're getting older, and I think we should have some property in our name. You never know when you're going to meet the perfect girl. What happens if you don't have the money for a house or even a small condo? You're gonna want to own at least a log cabin or something! Girls nowadays want a man with some substance.
Marvin was always a bit of an extremist. You wouldn't be able to tell from the outside with Marvin's neatly combed blonde hair and perfect complexion, but he was a bit on the wild side when it came to his mentality. Sterling had been thrown through plenty of random adventures because of his friend's boisterous personality, but hardly a few people knew of his real character. Not even his clothes had shown any signs of difference or imperfections, and Sterling knew that Marvin had recently ironed his button-down shirt and khakis, as was his custom.
You have a good point,
Sterling muttered as he put his eyes back on to the menu. I guess I’m not really craving steak. Maybe I’ll have some pancakes?
Forget the food for a moment.
Marvin continued. He was always like this, and Sterling had accepted him for it a very long time ago ever since they met in middle school. He and Marvin had grown up together in this small town, and he was quite used to his friend's crazy ideas. As the two bickered about apartment's and tax reductions, the waitress came and took their order. It was the same one the two always had. No matter what time or day of the week they ate here, they almost always had Rose as the waitress. She was an older woman with strawberry colored hair and tired eyes. She wore the restaurants' signature white shirt and blue jeans combo as she strut over to the side of the table. The only good thing about always waiting on Sterling and Marvin was that she knew she was in for a decent
