To Francis Docherty
This age of faithlessness and zealous faith
Has claimed both end of history and truth
Absolute; all this on history’s wheel –
Contingent, circuit judge of restive will.
The heavens fell and yet did not, buttressed
Both east and west by blind faith invested
Development – steeled glass caravan,
A high-rise tent, new zealous age of godless man.
The faithless, at a loss, grasp our creed
That nothing comes from faith. Like
