- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Of all the books that we have in this series (given to us as gifts), this is the best one. All it is, really, is a small collection of nursery rhymes or children's songs, such as Hickory Dickory Dock and Pat-a-Cake. These poems are classics for kids, my girls love them, and they enjoy reading this book. Having a CD with the rhymes from the story set to music, along with other popular children's songs, is a nice touch. The illustrations are typical little kid cutesy, but they work with nursery rhymes. There are certainly better collections of nursery rhymes out there, but this book does come with music, and I always feel that you can never own too many collections of this type of literature. Part of the allure of these older oral traditions transposed into text is that there is an infinite variety of reproductions, whether it be in how the story or rhyme is told, or in the pictures accompanying the story. This board book isn't one of my favorites, but it's still enjoyable.
