Alice stared into the distance. The tide was out, and the gentle ebb and flow of waves was only just audible from where she sat on a towel by the pier. She hadn’t planned to come to Blackpool this weekend, but Julian was here for a conference so the trip was a free ride and a free hotel, and she’d had nothing better to do.
