The question that this book seeks to answer, and one that everyone must have asked themselves at least once in their lives, is: are telepathy, clairvoyance and divination of the future gifts? Are they techniques? Are they both? Are they the effect of a particular predisposition of a few or are they present in each of us? And in the latter hypothesis (which is no longer hypothesis but certainty), how can these potential faculties be developed?
From reading and, why not, studying the pages of this book, it will become clear that the starting point for everyone is the subtle alchemy that separates us from the outside world. By overcoming this, the development of what Colin Wilson calls the 'latent sense' or the 'X-faculty' can be achieved.
This, according to Wilson, is the power that allows each of us to overcome the limitations of the present. For we know that the past is as real as the present and that New York, Singapore or Tokyo exist as much as, and as much as, the place where we are at this very moment. But our senses convey a different reality to us and assure us that the place where we are now is absolutely more real than any other place, no matter at what time. And that this is false only appears to us in moments of great inner intensity.
So we are victims of a virtual reality that determines in us a very dangerous passive receptivity because it creates a condition of boredom and stagnation that would also explain the incredibly gratuitous and violent nature of certain crimes. In order to come out of this, man must strengthen his "mental muscle". And it will be less difficult than it may seem if we really want to.
The method described in this book is not the product of more or less feasible theoretical conceptions designed to provoke clairvoyance in readers eager for experimentation. On the contrary, the method is essentially positive, since it is the conclusion of not a few thousand experiments undertaken over a period of about twenty years, by a considerable number of subjects of all categories. It produces remarkable effects with normally evolved individuals, especially with persons capable of maintaining constant serenity or animated by a sincere desire for moral elevation; in the final analysis, the method brings to all, at more or less intense levels, new and superior subjective states, since it constitutes a real psychic and mental culture.
Are clairvoyance, telepathy, premonitory divination embryonic within us? Let us try to follow this method which, if we really want it, can guide us BEYOND THE LIMIT.

Telepatia, veggence and divination (translated) - Anna Ruggieri
Preface to the present edition.
Today it is extremely easy to turn to a 'fortune teller'. The specialised and non-specialised press, all or almost all television stations have their own adverts and, more often, broadcasts with which one can connect live by telephone. But the question, which this book seeks to answer, is of a different kind, and everyone must have asked themselves it at least once in their lives: are telepathy, clairvoyance and divination of the future gifts? Are they techniques? Are they both? Are they the effect of a particular predisposition of a few or are they present in each of us? And in the latter hypothesis (which is no longer hypothesis, but certainty), how can these potential faculties be developed?
From reading and, why not, studying the following pages, it will become clear that the starting point for everyone is the subtle alchemy that separates us from the outside world. By overcoming this, one can achieve the development of what Colin Wilson calls the 'latent sense' or the 'X-faculty'.
This, according to Wilson, is the power that allows each of us to overcome the limits of the present. We know that the past is as real as the present and that New York, Singapore or Tokyo exist as much as, and as well as, the place where we are at this very moment. But our senses convey a different reality and assure us that the place where we are now is absolutely more real than any other place, no matter what the time.
And that this is false only appears to us in moments of great inner intensity.
We are therefore victims of a virtual reality that leads to a very dangerous passive receptivity in us, because it creates a condition of boredom and stagnation that would also explain the incredibly gratuitous and violent nature of certain crimes. In order to come out of this, man must strengthen his mental muscle
. And it will be less difficult than it may seem if we really want it.
Are clairvoyance, telepathy and premonitory divination in embryo within us? Let us try to follow this method which, if we really want it, can guide us BEYOND THE LIMIT.
Preface
The method described in the following pages is not, as some critics of the first edition claimed, the product of more or less feasible theoretical conceptions, intended to provoke clairvoyance in readers eager to experiment. The method is, on the contrary, essentially positive, since it is the conclusion of not a few thousand experiments undertaken over a period of about twenty years, by a considerable number of subjects of all categories. The means indicated are the consequence of many observations, and those who have applied them have obtained results extraordinarily in tune with those obtained by the undersigned.
Others have regretted that the method requires an instructor, that is, that it does not give the means to develop clairvoyance by the subject himself. It is true that some oriental peoples are able to obtain subjective vision through personal training, but this is an inborn faculty, rather rare in western populations. Development without an instructor risks making the brain receptive to bad and unbalanced currents, capable of producing deceptive illusions, accompanied by nervous disturbances, even with very serious virtualities; this danger does not arise with the presence of the instructor, provided he takes care to conduct the images with logic and regularity, to avoid incongruent questions, as well as everything that might cause fatigue or a state of general difficulty, but rather to provoke in the subject increasingly complete states of equilibrium and quiet. Not only does normal development not cause any disturbance, but on the contrary it perfects the physical and moral state of the subject, and even ensures his recovery or the alleviation of his ills if he is suffering.
Finally, it must be added that this method does not owe its success to my personal action as has also been claimed.
The method obviously depends on the predisposition of the subject, but it is nevertheless effective with any instructor, as long as the instructor applies the rules accurately. It can be likened to a method that teaches how to draw or play music, the application of which depends on the pupil and the teacher, but always leads to results. It is certainly uncomfortable with individuals of crude character, poor culture or inconstant. On the other hand, it produces remarkable effects with normally evolved individuals, especially with people capable of maintaining constant serenity or animated by a sincere desire for moral elevation; in the final analysis, the method brings to all, at more or less intense levels, new and superior subjective states, since it constitutes a true psychic and mental culture.
General features
Knowledge of the outside world is provided by our senses, but these are extremely limited. We cannot hear or see a person unless we are close to him, and we cannot exchange ideas with him except through words, which differ from one people to another, and which, more often than not, betray our thoughts either willingly or unwillingly. Science has nevertheless been able, to a certain extent, to broaden the capacities of our senses: the microscope and the telescope have widened the field of our vision, as much in the direction of the infinitely small as in the direction of the infinitely large; the telephone has eliminated the condition of short distance attached to our hearing, and television transmits the most distant images. Moreover, science has given us a glimpse of the existence of innumerable vibratory modes, only an infinitesimal part of which is perceptible. Our ear only registers vibrations between 32,000 and 33,000, our eye only perceives vibrations between 450 trillion red and 750 trillion violet, so that even if we integrate the vibrations of electricity and colour, we are still faced with gaps that defy imagination. Do these gaps correspond to vibrations actually emitted in the universe, or are they merely the consequence of nothingness, of an absolute discontinuity in the succession of vibrations?
The latter hypothesis is not compatible either with the laws of nature, which only proceed by
