About this ebook

This book consists of the wealth of advice given by Hazrat Ibrahim Haqqi Erzurumi to his loyal murid Mullah Halil of Avnik, after the afternoon prayer on a friday.
Adapted from Ottoman Turkish into modern Turkish and translated into English, this easy-to-read, concise book tells about rabita, tawajjuh, manawi states, getting close to Allah, talking to people at a level suited for their understanding, and the ikhlas of the murids.
Submission, visiting graves, patience, dhikr, irshad, good morals, and relationships with people are also among the issues mentioned in the book.
In this little book, which is a text on the manners and adabs of tasawwuf, the main issues that need to be taken into careful consideration are summarized briefly.

The Booklet with Which Hazrat Ibrāhim Haqqi Gave Irshād (Spiritual Guidance) To His Faithful Murīd Mullah Halil Of Avnik

    INTRODUCTION

O friend! He who dived into the sea of irfān,¹ has the privilege to earn the tajallī² of Rahmān (All-Compassionate Allāh), my dear support, man of irfān, allāmah (exceedingly learned) of the era, an example of an elect person, soul of my being, beloved to my soul, the father sultan of the both ālams (this world and the next) and a comrade who shows the right path to humankind, Hazrat mawlāna Ibrāhim Haqqi (qaddasallāhu sirrahū wa nawwara rūhahū) had taught tarbiya (good manners, etiquette) and gave irshād (guidance in the tasawwuf) to this insignificant and humbled dervish and his servant Halil with many sharbats of hikmat (drinks of wisdom) to heal him from the sicknesses of heart. Again, when it became necessary, he had said some words of hikmat (wisdom of hidden things), wakened us from the state of ghaflat (spiritual ignorance, unawareness) with many signs and good news by giving the cures of sicknesses of heart.

Now, these hikmats are written here in order to have the barakat (blessing, abundance) by the words from sharbats of hikmat that are prepared for this sickhearted man (Mullah Halil) by he who has the hikmat (Hazrat Ibrāhim Haqqi)

On the 17th of Rabi’ul-awwal, 1186, Friday³, he had opened the gate of favour to me, insignificant and humbled dervish Halil, by revealing many secrets (of the spiritual path):

    Being Always in Rābita

My son Mullah Halil! For ten years now, closing your five senses, you have never dismissed my physical appearance and the spot between my two brows⁴ even for a moment from your mind through dhikr (reciting, remembrance of Allāh) and fikr (preoccupation, deep thought). While standing, sitting, eating, drinking, and between comings and goings you never remain ghāfil (unaware, one in ghaflat) of your heart’s naqsh (design) so that our figure be settled in your heart and you could remember us all the time. Indeed, what comes to
