Chapter One

The driving beat of the music was enough to make Liv’s teeth buzz in her mouth.  Or maybe that had something to do with the three whiskey sours she’d had.  Or that one drink the guy at the bar had bought her.  The fruity one with the cherry in it.

She’d taken the stem from the cherry and tied it into a knot with her tongue while he’d drooled.  Then she left him with a wink.

The club was hopping tonight, but she wasn’t looking to find someone to go home with.  Not tonight.  She was just out to have a good time on her twenty-third birthday.  Viki and Tania were supposed to be dancing with her but they got separated.  Again.  This place was huge!  A club built into an abandoned warehouse.  Awesome, with a capital A.

Viki and Tania and her had been best friends since high school and this was going to be a night to remember.  Booze, dancing and teasing every guy with a hard body and a heartbeat from here to San Bernardino. 

If there was one thing that California had been good for since the three of them had moved out here, it was providing a never ending variety of men.  Viki was on her third, no fourth, boyfriend.  Tania was practically living with the guy next door to their apartment.  Liv had just been sampling a few different men.  Turns out if she smiled just right, they gave her expensive, pretty things.  Sometimes she had to let them go all the way with her, but hey.  You only lived once.

Where were Viki and Tania, anyway?

Liv knew she was getting looks from more than a few of the guys here in the club tonight.  After all, she was in her favorite dress, the black one with the square neckline that made her breasts look a size bigger than their b-cup, and hugged her ass like a lover’s hands.  It didn’t leave much to the imagination, even in the pulsing red, blue and green lights.  Every few minutes those lights went out and the crowd would scream and howl and people would get a little too grabby-feely for Liv’s taste.

But what the hell?  She was still young, and fun was something you had to experience.

Hey there, a guy said to her, shouting over the music.  He was tall, and his body strained his purple t-shirt, and that smug smile on his face said he just knew that Liv was going to go home with him tonight.  Wanna dance?
