Chakra studies in healing have proven to be helpful in specific individuals. However, it does not claim to replace medical interventions for diagnosed diseases. Chakra healing is meant to support the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of a person. A clear mind can assist a person in his quest for general betterment. Nevertheless, this book’s contents are not intended to replace professional medical advice. An annual general medical checkup, with or without symptoms, is still recommended.

Chapter 1 – Introduction to Chakras

There is deep wisdom within our very flesh, if we can only come to our senses and feel it.

    Elizabeth A. Behnke

Some of you may have a vague concept of what chakras are. You may have an idea that its primary notion involves parts of your body, and that it also includes the spiritual plane.

But how do the spiritual and physical planes connect? This is what this chapter deals with.

    What are chakras?

The word chakra is derived from the Sanskrit word, cakra, which means wheel. The term dates back to 1500 BCE. A chakra is an energy vortex, which each person can find within himself. It carries some of the universe’s energy into your aura and physical body. This is why the chakra system is often described as something of a spiritual bloodstream. The flow of energy supports both your energy self and physical body.

Chakra systems are not limited to humans, either. Animals also have their own sources of physical and spiritual energy.

    Where did the philosophy originate?

At this point, we know that the word has Sanskrit origins. In its simplest terms, a chakra system is a spiritual bloodstream. What we don’t know is where these ideas come from.

During the time, the word was first used, around 1500 BC to 500 BC, the Vedas were written. The language used was Sanskrit. In those Vedas were written the philosophies concerning chakras. A Veda is an old text of some of the most profound knowledge in Hinduism.

In these old books, researchers have found how Eastern medicine and philosophies tend to make a spirit and body connection. Comparably, Western texts tend to focus more on what can tangibly be seen on the human body.

In Hinduism, it is believed that each energy center in the body can be linked to an emotional and physical aspect of the self. Indians have been benefiting from the application of this knowledge in their quests for happiness, long life, and health.

Are chakras limited to the Hindu religion?

While the term chakra comes from a Sanskrit word and the practice has Indian origins, chakras have always existed. They are, in no way, limited to Hinduism as a religion or to the Indian culture. What strongly associates chakras with Indians is the fact that they were the first to apply their knowledge of them.

Proof that backs this up is the Chinese’s use of Chi in their medicinal practices. With Chi, there are references to the parts or meridians of the body. Life force energy is also said to flow through energetic channels. Sounds familiar? Yes, the Chinese could well be describing chakra, but are using their own terms and using their own practices.

Will this book focus on a belief or religion?

This book will not be looking at chakras using a particular religion. However, it will tackle a Universal consciousness. This cannot be skipped and ignored because the chakra system is focused on achieving enlightenment. Practitioners aim to leave behind earthly and human issues to connect to the Source better.

For those who have practiced yoga before, some of the concepts may be similar. You will make use of specific practices to achieve enlightenment.

    Why are chakras important?

As just mentioned, chakras will help us achieve enlightenment. What does that do in more straightforward terms? It helps us ding the answers to our most profound questions about who we are and what our purpose is in this world. We can find our own version of enlightenment. It does not have to be the same type of higher spiritual plane that the original practitioners were attempting to reach, but they will somehow elevate you.

Chakras also create a holistic look at your physical and spiritual health. Sometimes, the modern world can make you forget that you should even think about the spiritual aspects of your life.

What are some of the most common misconceptions about chakras?

Chakras are associated with only one religion. This has been answered earlier. The prevalent concepts involving chakras may have originated from Hindu Sanksrit readings, but they are not exclusive to Hinduism.

What we know about chakras have been explored in other cultures and religions. The terms used are just different. So, even if you practice a different religion or follow none at all, you can still make use of your chakras to feel and live better.

    Chakras are evil.

Some people may have watched a good number of horror movies. So, they have formed this conclusion. It is, however, understandable that some people regard the unknown with fear.

Chakras, however, are not evil. They are the opposite of evil. You get to know your chakras to try to achieve enlightenment. Instead of filling yourself with darkness when you deal with chakras, you are actually filling yourself with light.

Chakras require you to find a healer to help you achieve wellness and enlightenment. You don’t need a healer to help you achieve enlightenment through chakras. You can help elevate and lighten your life.

What possibly makes people think that this is the case with chakras is their association of the practice with evil rituals. Usually, you will find witch doctors (good or bad, according to the movies) trying to heal the afflicted using dance, song, and strange words. This is not the case with chakras. You can help treat yourself. With this book, we will try to help you reach that point.

How should you deal with healing?

Yes, you are only at the beginning of your journey. However, some things should be made clear. This way, you don’t get disappointed at the first leg of the marathon and think that you have lost the race. Know what to expect before you immerse yourself in the road to enlightenment for yourself and your loved ones.

Take it at your own pace.

Don’t get annoyed and impatient when you don’t get the results that you expected right away. Even Western medicine has varying effects on different people.

Yes, people vary. They will have different reactions to everything. Not only that, but each person also has a unique combination of physical and emotional afflictions. Psychotherapists take months or even years to get the bottom of a person’s problem. However, what they are doing is widely accepted in the Western world. So, people are more likely to be patient.

Pause awhile and think why you may have thought chakras can bring you magically quick remedies. Is it because they seem part of a culture that is strongly associated with rituals and exotic cures?

    Stay within your comfort zone.

You will not hear this advice many times in your life. People always tell you to explore outside the box. Be creative. Be bold.

With chakras, however, it is not just a matter of spiritual and emotional connection. It is not just about how much you are willing to take risks. Remember that you will also be involving your actual physical body.

When you push beyond your limits, you may experience manifesting symptoms. For example, you may develop a headache or even a migraine. It is a sign to stop and not to keep pushing. You are, after all, trying to achieve a better sense of well-being. If you start feeling the opposite, then
