Truth - Olivia Loucks
Chapter 1
G
rowing up in the mile-high city, in Denver Colorado was an adventure for my family and I (Annabelle). We didn’t do much moving around, but there was always a lot to explore. Whether it was the hustle and bustle of the city life or the serenity of the peaceful mountains, you were never truly bored. As a child, my parents did everything they could for my younger brother and I. They gave us opportunity and always took care of us. My mom would stay home with us while my dad worked full time for an oil and gas company. He would wake up early every morning and go to work down town into the city. We lived in the suburbs so it was about a 20-to-30-minute drive to the city. My dad would take his car down to the bus station, so he wouldn’t have to pay for parking. It was extremely expensive downtown. My parents always taught me hard work pays off. Its hard work to raise children and hard work to work a job. No matter what you do in life, always give one hundred and ten percent. Lazy was not an option in our home.
Babies are born pure, needing lots of love and attention. As children they continue to need lots love and attention and want to be loved for who they are. Of course, not only children but adults can feel this way too. Sometimes, as adults we lose that initial love, depending on what kind of experiences we go through. Luckily, Jesus is the ultimate love even when all else on earth fails. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not parish, but have everlasting life.
From the time I was two to six years old, we lived in a suburban neighborhood by the church. It was nice because we didn’t have to drive very far to get to and from church or even schools. I remember a lot from growing up in that house. We had many days at the park where my dad would play froggy with us. He would chase us around and hop like a frog pretending to get us. After prayer for bed time, we would also play horse. He would go on his hands and knees and he would give us rides on his back galloping around. My mom would always say, Be careful kids! Don’t hurt your dad.
The church we went to and still attend is The New Apostolic Church. You don’t really hear many of these kinds of churches now a days. It’s not Catholic but it does descend from one of the catholic branches. It’s pretty much a Christian based church. One of the reasons I love this church is not because of religion, but because its unique. It’s not like other churches or religions where the Bible may be confusing and have a bunch of abolishing rules. Here everyone is accepted and the Bible is factual. They have service for the departed to remember and honor those who have died or need help in eternity. We take the time for holy communion and remembrance. Church is never perfect, like a hospital filled with sick people. The only reason people come to church is to be with other sinners who all come together to worship and get to know and love our God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. It is truly 100% all about your one-on-one relationship with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. They want to know you and become your best friend. That’s what it’s all about.
My parents and their parents both attended the church. My mother’s parents Harold and Karen met each other in Michigan as neighbors. They grew up playing together and became the best of friends. One day my grandpa just asked my grandma on a date and it went off from there. They attended the Lutheran church for a while until they stumbled across the church we go to now. My grandparents moved all over the place with my mom and her older brother because of my grandmas Fibromyalgia condition. It was hard to find medical answers for that illness back then so they did what they could and moved until they found a solution. My grandpa had to start his business three times because of the moves, but God always provided for them. My grandpa owned his own shutter and awning business. He worked so hard in that business and also worked very hard as a Priest in the church. He worked hard to help people and offer them work even though he could barely afford anything himself. He helped build the church in the neighborhood I lived in. He always gave God everything he had.
My dad’s parents lived in Texas growing up. David and Margie met each other in Ohio through a mutual friend. They had burger’s together in high school on a double date with some friends and they hit it off ever sense. Throughout some time when my dad and his younger brother were little kids, they lived in Ohio for quite some time. David got a job promotion later on in life and moved the family out to Texas. My dad’s parents came across the church back in Ohio when my dad and his brother were younger. The New Apostolic Church is actually a world-wide church. It’s amazing because no matter where you may live in the world, there is a church. My grandpa was an amazing person and Priest in the church. Him and my grandma were the experts at garage sales. They always found everything needed and it always amazed me that no matter what, they could always find something amazing. Even at church my grandparents would always find things for others and help them in any way they could. It was the true meaning of Christ and his love.
In the last detail of my stories time line, my parents met in the youth group. Our church would have huge events to get all of the youth from all around the world together. We would call it day of the youth. That’s when our Chief Apostle would come out to hold service and everyone would get together and have a blast playing games and etc. My parents met each other when they had day of the youth in Texas. They talked and met briefly at that time, but also didn’t really know one another. After the day of the youth, my dad began to write my mom thinking about her often. One day he finally came out to Colorado where she was living and that was the end of it.
Living in the first home on Brewer Street we had for the first couple of years was fun. My parents had my younger brother and we would constantly play together. We did have our fights of course, but it was like any other childhood. I’ll always remember my parents taking the time to play with us or spend time with us. They always made us a priority and took care of our needs. When I was around four years of age, I remember having a wide range of imagination. I always felt the presence of God around me or eternity. I remember praying to myself often and looking at the world from a child’s perspective. I prayed to God by myself many nights to pray for eternity and the people around me in my life. One night I prayed, Lord, I want to help heal people. I wish I could help the people in the hospitals or people in pain. It’s not fair.
I got very emotional and began to cry. I could feel the nearness of God and a quiet voice saying, Do you want to help people Olivia?
I replied, Yes.
I had a hard time growing up at times. I didn’t feel like a normal little kid. I felt something was off with myself because I was more sensitive than all the other kids. I could feel my emotions like a roller coaster ride. I felt very invisible because of how shy I was compared to other kids. I was very introverted. In preschool we had times where we would sing songs together and jump or run around and scream. I’ll never forget hating the screaming. I felt as if I didn’t belong as a kid with all the energy and screaming, they all had. I had one close friend that I got along with well at the time named Peggy. Peggy was always nice to me. She got along with everyone pretty well and was a likable person. Peggy’s brother was also around my younger brothers age, so they went to the same preschool and grew up together as well. Our families
