About this ebook
The man turned the key in the lock vigorously. He was exhausted. Yet again, he had to work overtime. After five days of strenuous toil, all he dreamed of was to finally get some rest. It was almost night. Here and there, one could hear the noise of people cooking food on the barbeque in their gardens.
“The Perfect Friday,” he thought. “Why can’t we live like this?” He asked himself, even though he was perfectly aware of the answer.
He pressed the door handle. Darkness and blissful silence embraced him wholly. He enjoyed that silence though. It seemed so unnatural in comparison to the constant bustling, of which the house is full during the day. He took a deep breath as he wanted to enjoy this moment as long as it is possible. Then, noiselessly, he wended his way towards the kitchen, which was located on the right side of the house. The room was large, being connected to the dining area, and completely non-functional during the day. He opened the fridge, which turned out to be well-stocked, and reached for a tonic. Having grabbed the bottle, he walked over to the round table, at which he always eats meals with his family at the weekend. As he was about to sit down, he noticed something through the glass door of the dining area. It was her, sleeping on the couch. Leaving the bottle on the table, he gently opened the door and entered the living room. However, the barely audible squeaking woke the sleeping woman.
She was of small stature. Her lovely face looked peaceful and her green eyes were sleepy. She had beautiful, slightly curled hair, the shade of which resembled that of chestnuts.
“Have you been here long?” she asked, yawning.
“Just a minute,” he replied softly.
The woman got up from the couch and looked towards the dining room, where a slightly dim light was lit. With her keen eyes, she noticed a bottle of soda on the round table.
“You drank straight from the bottle again?” she asked, though it sounded more like an assertion of a fact.
The man felt like a little boy caught red-handed. He knew she disliked him drinking from a bottle at home. He was sure that she would ask him again, laughing at the same time, whether “he still doesn’t know where the glasses are?” Of course, he knew his answer would be affirmative, but decided to keep it to himself nevertheless. Her voice broke him out of his thoughts.
