A blizzard had hit suddenly. It had come just out of nowhere. A fury that beat down on Gavin with a personnel vengeance.

He gripped the reins of his steed tightly as not to lose each other in the storm. He was doing his best to lead them both while having zero visibility.

What Gavin would do for a nice warm fire right now. The blistering cold bit deeply under his cloak and armour. His hood was kept tightly over his head. The snow was piling up quickly. It was almost ankle deep. Soon he would have a harder time leading his horse to shelter.

The damnable flakes stuck to him, because of its dampness. Thick layers clung to both rider and steed. Every so often Gavin would shake and wipe away the heavy snow.

It was difficult to see anything in this blinding whiteout. His eyes stung. The wind howled in his ears. It was cold, too cold, and the temperature continued to drop. His feet felt frozen, and his fingers were beginning to numb. By the sound of his horse’s breathing the mare was not doing well.

There seemed to be a dark shadowed shape ahead. It was massive. It had to be some sort of shelter. Gavin hoped that it would be.

He came to an archway that had a guard post on either side. Standing inside were ice statues of guards. The amount of detail was astoundingly realistic. Gavin swore they were real
