Angel plonked down on the stupid boulder, yanking off the too-large boot once belonging to her brother. She’d long ago outgrown the smaller pair but there were no creds to buy new ones that fit. Even if they made it off this stupid planet to another system to buy things.

She pulled a stone out of the boot and threw it hard, watching it barely bounce and then splinter into pieces.

She hated this planet. They’d named it Jagged, because everything felt so hard and sharp here. Not a great name but no one had come up with another. They all felt apathetic, or worse, about being stuck here. No one willing to label it depression. Depression involved…complications.

Even walking felt hard here. She’d barely gone 800 meters and her legs felt wobbly. The rest of her body wasn’t doing too well either. Her heart rate was up and breathing felt laborious.

But she couldn’t stay in the emergency shelter forever. She felt so bored. And it was too crowded with her Dad, Karl, and his partner, Xia. Plus her younger sister, who made more noise than everyone else put together.
