    About the Author

    Author’s Note

Whenever I need a break from life, I go to my laptop and begin to write. Naturally, it calms me just to type and hear the sound of the keys tapping as I pour out my mind. I’ve always loved reading; I can transport myself into the world of the characters and, although I’m reading, I feel as though I’m right there. I actually wrote a little book when I was about eight years old called Pretty the Grasshopper. It was my first book ever; I wrote it on our printing paper, and I stapled the edges of the pages to make it look like a real book. I was proud of it and now I regret not keeping it somewhere safe because it’s nowhere to be found.

Previously, whenever I wrote on my computer, my stories were without plans and I just wanted to put down some ideas without having the real intention of finishing the stories. This, however, became a little bit tiring because I really wanted to write a real book, one that I could call my own. I got the idea of Oh my Crush! while sitting on my bed, pondering what I should write that night. It was a great idea and I jumped into it, typing immediately. Thankfully, I didn’t forget to make a story plan. I got started on it and I actually got a story plan ready for use, which allowed me to be dedicated to writing this book.

I’ve had quite a few crushes and when I do have one, I don’t know what to do with myself (most of the time). I want to rant about how I feel to my family, but I never find the words to express myself. (Plus, they’d probably get tired of my ranting after like two minutes. I’m just kidding.) This idea gave me the perfect opportunity to write down what it was like to have a crush and how I dealt with it.

My mother really helped me with my crushes. I could tell her about them, and she would give me some quality advice, so most of the tips in this book are from her. As a Christian, for me it seems wrong to have a crush, but my mother explained to me that it is normal, and she shared some of her experiences with me as well.

She started giving me advice when she saw what I was writing about a crush. I used to write down my feelings about my crush on my computer, especially when it was pretty intense. One fateful day, while I was writing in the living room, my mother came in. She asked me what I was writing and said she wanted to read it. I was writing some super cringey stuff and I couldn’t even let my sister read it, so I was thinking, how on earth could I let my mother read it?! She eventually got my writing from me, and we went upstairs to her room together. I thought she would scold me for having those feelings and I felt uncomfortable. While I was stressing out and trying to defend my actions, she simply explained to me that it was normal, although she did tell me to stop writing it down. This was because I usually went back to read my previous pieces of writing and she told me that re-reading that stuff could bring back feelings that weren’t meant to be there. I took her advice and learnt how to deal with crushes without writing them down in a way that could possibly make me have that crush again.

The purpose of this book, really, is to inform young teenagers, like me, about dealing with having a crush. Without my mother’s advice, I don’t know what I would’ve done during the timespan of my crushes. Similarly, I wrote this book to help young teenagers with their feelings, so they don’t have to feel lost or carried away when they have crushes. I’ve also added a little story to go along with the stages of a crush so that it’s not just a book of advice but a storybook too. I used some of my experiences to create the character Jenna, whose story I’m sure will catch your attention as you go through the book. Now that I’m done ranting, I hope you have a good time reading my very first book.
