About this ebook

SHORT, SWEET, AND STRAIGHT TO THE HEART...three charming and fun mini-stories bundled together for one enjoyable read.

A Double Date of Sorts:

Roe is chauffeuring her teenaged son and his date to the school dance. The girl's dad insists on meeting Roe and her son first – which sends her son into a panic. Mike is a deputy sheriff and tough as nails. More than one young suitor has dissolved under his intense stare. Except that same stare captivates Roe. Good grief. What would her son say if he knew?

Love Notes:

Sabrina reluctantly agrees to a coffee meet up with a guy she met through a dating app. When Daniel arrives, she's stunned to learn he's really "Danny" — the first boy she ever kissed and the one who sent her love notes in 7th grade math class. But the same obstacle they faced back then could also hamper any potential relationship today.

The Less Serious Aspects of Driving:

Casey's marriage is in serious trouble and starting to circle the drain. She never expects that a driving lesson with her recalcitrant teenaged son will stir cherished memories of Rocky, her high school crush and first love, and show her what truly matters in life and marriage.

    "YES. WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO

    it. Same to you."

Roe Charleston disconnected from her caller and, holding her phone close to her mouth, voice activated her virtual assistant. After dictating several notes to herself, she went in search of her fifteen-year-old son Bryan. She found him lying in the middle of the family room floor, a throw pillow under his head, feet propped up on the coffee table and a biology text book balanced on his stomach.

Taking a seat in the recliner, she absently rubbed a kink in her shoulder. It had been another tough day at work. The roller coaster stock market had put her clients in a state of panic.

That was Jakki’s dad who caled.

Bryan jerked to a sitting position, scattering note pages in a dozen different directions. You’re joking! What did he want?

He’d like us to come a half-hour early on Friday.

    His eyes widened. W-why?

To meet you, naturally, Roe explained in the tone of voice she used when her offspring failed to grasp the obvious. And me.

Oh, man. He shoved his fingers through thick, wavy hair that looked better mussed than combed. Who does that?

It’s a reasonable request. You’re taking his daughter to the fall dance, and I’ll be driving the both of you.

Can’t I just go to the door alone while you wait in the car?

    We are not doing that.

Mom, he’s, like, a deputy sheriff or something. Bryan fingered the black onyx stud in his ear. He’s gonna hate me.

So, leave the earrings at home.

He frowned. I shouldn’t have to change my appearance for anyone. You said that.

What I said was, people shouldn’t judge you based on your clothing and appearance. But if you voluntarily leave the earrings at home for whatever reason, like a job or a presentation, that’s okay.

Roe hadn’t been happy when Bryan’s dad took him to get the piercings during a visit this past summer. He was too young, in her opinion. She’d chosen to forego the minor battle, however, and save her energy for bigger ones. Like underage drinking. And drugs. And, perish the thought, premarital sex.

Look, honey, she said. "You’re an honor roll student and captain of the junior varsity soccer team. You have nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be proud of. Don’t let her dad intimidate you just
