Among my coworkers, a large group was working mothers. Each of us was putting in twelve to sixteen-hour days in to be able to make ends meet. After researching the ratio from only fifty years ago, there would be 32% working mothers in the field, now it was 72%, with 50% being full-time.

It isn't a surprise that having a child in this day of age has cost more than our grandparents or even parents; however, there has to be a give and take as most of us are at work more than we are with our own family.

The one thing most of my coworkers talked about was spending more time with their family. They were missing holidays, birthdays, and time was slipping by as they were stuck working for long shifts just to be able to pay bills.

I understand that time is essential since being a 'Mommy' isn't something you can get vacation time from; however, this will be in easy steps that you can even do when the little one's nap. After starting my business, many of my friends and mothers wanted to have that 'freedom' of not working long hours for someone else. Most mothers I know had their children in daycare and had to work an hour away after seeing me step away from twelve-hour shifts in medical that they too could have their freedom. We were spending more than half of the day at work.

I had walked away from being an author to follow my dreams in the medical profession; I wasn't expecting to spend between twelve hours to sixteen hours a day. Granted, this also depended on how short-staffed we were, but it seemed as if we were always short-staffed, and I was seeing my coworkers more than I was with my family. Between not spending time with my family and medical issues that had appeared, I had to change what I was doing. I was working myself to death just to make ends meet. I no longer saw my family, and if I did, it was for a short time when they were sleeping before I went back in. Things had to change, and I had to make it happen.

In a statistic, one in three Moms owns their own business to support their family and spend more time with their family.

As I turned back to my writing roots, a couple of my friends asked me how to do it, and then their friends were asking them for my information to help them get started. What became a simple idea became a whirlwind that made me realize that most Moms need a starting point to have the building blocks of what to do and where to find it.

I also realized that most mothers were also on a shoestring budget, so keeping both time and money in my mind when writing this book was also very helpful. It is no surprise that most of the mothers I knew were wondering how to start a business since the statistics were one and three moms own a business. It meant that they no longer had to give up their family to support their family. It held a reward that they wouldn't just achieve the highest levels of professional satisfaction. They would also be producing a more meaningful business as they no longer had to work for someone else for twelve to sixteen hours but be able to watch their children grow up and be there for their spouse instead of coming home and not knowing whom they were becoming. No more would their kids be stuck at daycare all day while parents were at work, and there wouldn't be missing out on special events or holidays.

When my friends told their friends, I realize how many Moms were already out there dreaming of their own business. They didn't know where to start. I did know that they already had a different thinking pattern that set them
