    I ’m ready for a cup of coffee. How about you? Susan looked over at where her sister was busy doing something on her phone.

    Without looking up, Vicky replied, Sounds good. I could use a cup.

    Rising from the kitchen table, Susan walked over to the brewer and extracted the used pod from the machine. What’s your poison? I got red devil’s food cake flavor, vanilla mocha flavor, some pumpkin spice left over from last October, Avery’s acid reflux favorite, and decaf. She glanced over her shoulder to see the woman staring at her in disgust.

    Good Lord, don’t you have something a bit less flavorful? I never took you for a coffee snob. Since when did you start veering away from a good old-fashioned cuppa java?

    Since our vacation last month when we spent those two weeks at the snow lodge up at Silver Gate. All they had was the flavored variety. It was either endure it, or do without. She grinned. You know me. The ‘do without’ option was a no-go. So I held my nose and drank what was available. I never figured on developing a liking for the damn stuff.

    So you don’t have anything a normal person like me would drink?

    I think there’s some breakfast blend in the pantry. Going over to the white bi-fold doors, she opened them and peered inside at the shelves. Hey! Found some! She plucked a bag of ground coffee and held it aloft, then took it over to the coffeemaker.

    Vicky watched absentmindedly as the woman took the fillable pod over to the trash bucket and began emptying it of the old grounds. When her sister finished, she remarked, Hit it once more.

    What? Susan gave her a curious look.
