Jackie Tan

Jackie Tan is a 45 year veteran in the Lord, and has ministered in Malaysia, Singapore and abroad. She spent several years in the United States pursuing studies in Christian education and theology, and has served in pioneer and large churches, besides teaching in a Bible college. Chapter 1: The Plan of Salvation

God’s Plan of Salvation

At its heart, the Christian faith is a personal relationship with God, which begins with a one to one encounter with our Creator through salvation. We come into this world alone and we will leave this world alone. No one can take our place in death and it is a journey many are afraid of, because they don’t know what lies on the other side. This uncertainty creates anxiety and fear because most people don’t want to think about what lies beyond death. They spend their lives focussed only on the present. Our life spans are relatively short, 70 to 85 for most people. But whether we like it or not we all die. So what happens after that?

While on this earth, we go through so much struggle and strife, and often wish there is someone who can really help us. There IS SOMEONE who is always ready to help, and that is GOD WHO LOVES US and wants to give us ETERNAL LIFE. All of us KNOW in the depths of our being that there must be something more than what life here offers. We long to reach beyond what we see and experience in this life, especially when we look at the stars and sky and wonder what lies beyond this earthly realm. We instinctively know that Heaven is in that vast space up there where God is but how to reach Him? We instinctively turn our faces upwards and lift up our hands in prayer when we seek Him. There is a God shaped vacuum of emptiness within us that ONLY HE CAN FILL.

So man tries to reach God by trying all kinds of ways and means. We try to be good people and do good works, hoping to earn merit to reach heaven. We turn to philosophy and different religions to find enlightenment; we practice all kinds of religious rituals of purification, fast and pray to deny our fleshly desires. But no matter how hard or how long we try, we can never reach heaven or God because WE ALL HAVE SIN IN OUR LIVES. Sin is the barrier separating us from reaching God because GOD IS PERFECT and RIGHTEOUS and hates sin. Sin is rebellion against God.

In fact, Sin is built into our DNA. If we deny we have sin, we are just fooling ourselves. We don’t have to do evil deeds to be sinful; even sinful thoughts make us sinful. We can murder someone in our hearts without carrying out the deed. When we character assassinate a person verbally, we have sinned, without actually killing him. Sin harms others and damages us. We try to justify our actions by saying that we are
