Chapter 1 Back to Reality
The marriage officiant looked up into the sky where Johnston and Wanda had disappeared into the thin air. He was bewildered by the fast get away and frowned with confusion. He moved his head downward to observe his surroundings and noticed that the remaining eight marriage candidates were lying on the pavement. Some of them were lying flat on their backs with their arms, hands, and legs extended out as far as possible. The others were lying down with their faces pressing into the hard rough pavement. Their arms were holding the form of a football goal post and their legs were bent at the knees forming a 90-degree angle in which the bottom of their shoes faced upwards towards the sky.
The marriage officiant said, What a crazy world this is nowadays. There are eight bodies lying on the pavement and everyone is completely knocked out. Maybe I should check on these guys to see if they are okay?
The marriage officiant, William Rotlendobnerst, walked towards Henry Bionavichen who was located between two of the cars in the circle that surrounded Johnston Wilderstarnite and Wanda Silverstolaney before they catapulted themselves up into the clouds and escaped from the scene.
Intermittently, strong gusts of wind blew in various different directions: from east to west, from north to south, from southeast to northwest and from southwest to northeast. William slowed down the pace of his walking while trying to fight through the powerful wind and debris (sticks, rocks, and broken glasses) that were smacking him in the face as he approached Henry’s body. When William was about five feet away from Henry Bionavichen’s body, he decided to take smaller baby steps forward to try and keep his body in a more stable position against the strong wind that was going in different directions.
As William lifted his left foot to take a small step forward, a piece of broken glass from a soda bottle hit him in the middle of the nose, slicing through his exterior skin layer and causing him to bleed.
He said, Ouch! Something just hit me in the nose!
William stopped, lifted his right hand towards his face to touch his nose, and noticed that he was bleeding. William removed his hand from his nose and opened up his palm where he saw a hug circle of blood that filled the circumference of the palm of his hand. He started to panic, got down on his knees, put his face into the palms of both hands.
William said, I was not hired to put myself in such dangerous conditions that would put me at high risk of injury. I was hired to marry two people and my job is complete. I did not sign up for a crazy love escapade. I just want to leave this skating rink parking lot and live happily ever after.
William stood up, removed his hands from his face, and faced the direction of the strong wind. To his surprise, white gusts of wind sped up in the direction of his hands and nose, clearing the blood from all of these body parts in a matter of ten seconds. He closed and opened his eyes a few times in an attempt to retune his visual senses that were distorted by the wind. Finally, he opened his eyes without blinking and was able to refocus on where Henry was located. The strong wind dissipated for the moment and William walked over to Henry’s body.
William bent down over his body, started lightly smacking his cheeks with his hands, and said, Hey are you okay? Wake up! Wake up! Snap out of it! It is just a dream.
Henry was unresponsive so William placed two of his fingers on Henry’s wrist and the side of his neck to check for a pulse. William detected a good pulse rate of forty-two beasts per minute, but for some unknown reason, Henry would not wake up into full consciousness. William decided to try a different method to wake up Henry as smacking him on the cheeks was insufficient.
William opened up his right hand and placed it on Henry’s forehead to check his body temperature. His forehead felt hot, so William grabbed both of his wrists with his left hand and noticed that they were ice cold. The imbalance of body temperature in Henry’s body was very alarming because there was no sign of breathing. His stomach was stiff, his face was pale, and his legs and arms were flimsy. William removed his left hand from Henry’s wrist and placed it on his forehead so that both of his hands were touching Henry’s forehead.
William started to press his hands into Henry’s forehead to see if this could help jumpstart his breathing process. William slightly increased the pressure on Henry’s forehead and his forehead started to turn cold. William’s eyeballs enlarged as he noticed that his hands were turning cold as he increased the pressure. William lost control of his regulation of pressure and involuntarily continued to press harder on Henry’s forehead. A few seconds later, Henry’s forehead froze into an ice block and William’s hands froze onto Henry’s forehead.
William said, Oh no! What have I done? I am trying to save this man’s life, but he may have frozen to death.
William tried to break the ice, yanking his arms backwards and tugging them outwards to the sides. He placed his feet onto the forehead ice block so that he could pull backwards with more force. His body color alternated between red and blue as he expended an incredible amount of energy in an attempt to detach himself from Henry’s forehead. However, the frozen ice block had locked him into a cold-blooded situation.
In a second attempt to break the ice, he stared at his frozen hands and his pupils started to generated an electric spark which shot out of his eyes in the direction of the ice block. Multiple sparks shot out of his eyes and landed on the ice, causing it to begin the melting process. A few minutes later, the ice block was broken, but William’s hands remained on Henry’s forehead. The electric transfer of energy from William’s hands to Henry’s forehead helped balance out his body temperature and recharge his neurological senses.
When William heard Henry coughing, he removed his hands from his forehead and said, You are coming back to life! Yes! Wake up! Wake up!
William turned Henry’s body to the side and patted him on the back. Henry began to move his arms, hands, and feet in all different directions as he fully returned to consciousness. Then, William turned him back to his original position on his back. Henry slowly opened his eyes and saw William’s huge smiling face which occupied all of the space of his upward visual field.
Henry moved his head from left to right in surprise and said, Hey! Where am I? Who are you? Why are you looking at me with such a big smile on your face?
William said, Well, you were knocked out and I have managed to bring you back to life. I am a marriage officiant who was prepared to marry you or eight other men to Wanda—the high-energy woman from Charlestown, West Virginia with a bubbly personality.
Henry was confused and his memory was not very clear at this moment.
He said, Who is Wanda? I am a married man so I do not imagine myself wanting to marry someone else.
William pulled out his cell phone and showed Henry several pictures of himself when he was holding a bouquet of twenty-four roses that he brought for Wanda. William also showed Henry photos of his laser beam fight with the other marriage candidates.
William said, So this is the solid proof that you were fully tuned into the mind and body of Wanda and fully checked out of the mind and body of your wife.
As Henry examined the photos, his eyeballs reshaped themselves into red roses. He laughed and smiled because these photos helped bring his memory to a more clear state of mind.
He said, Okay, so maybe that was me who was acting so foolishly. So I ended up getting knocked out?
William said, That is right. You were foolish enough to go into combat with eight other guys who wanted to marry the same woman.
Henry said, Yes I admit that I was a fool, but I do have to thank you for saving my life. That is such a tremendous achievement. You are my lifesaver.
William shrugged his shoulders and looked at Henry with a plain face and said, It is not a big deal. I am just doing what any reasonable person would do if they saw that someone was knocked out and lying with their back flat on the ground. I was always told that deeds never turn into greed.
Henry said, Well, thank you again. I am forever indebted to you. What did you mean by ‘deeds never turn into greed’?
William grinned and said, This simply means that if you continue to do positive things throughout your lifetime, this will help prevent you from wanting to have too much of everything.
Henry said, Wow!, That was well said. I will keep that in mind as I continue to navigate through the events that await me during the rest of my life.
William said, That sounds like a good idea, but you need to first admit your wrongdoing as far as your extramarital adventure aimed at captivating Wanda’s love.
Henry became a little bit defensive because he thought that William was meddling in his personal life issues.
Henry said, What are you talking about? I am a fully-dedicated husband who had a small mishap and now you want to blow it up into what you call an extramarital adventure? Who do you think you are?
William said, So are you telling me that you did not love Wanda, but you just wanted to marry her for the fun of it?
Henry said, No, I am not saying that. Maybe I loved Wanda, but my love for Wanda is different than my love for my current spouse. I am in love with my wife, but you just do not understand the depth of my personal life.
William was offended by Henry’s dismissal of his unfaithful behavior. He rotated his head to look at Henry directly in his face. Henry glanced at William and then turned his body around so that his back faced Henry’s eyes.
William said, So you are saying that you have no problem whatsoever with loving two women at one time?
Henry said, Of course I have a problem with loving two women at one time, but my specific case is an isolated incident in which my feelings became uncontrollable and they mentally carried me into the danger zone of love.
William said, Oh I understand exactly what you mean. So, in other words, your emotions are guilty of unfaithfulness, but physically you are completely innocent.
Henry did not want to respond to William in a direct manner so he lifted up his arms and flexed his biceps to try and distract William.
Henry said, I am not going to get into an in-depth conversation about the brain functioning of my emotions or how my physical actions may have played a part in altering my feelings towards Wanda. I will simply say that the inability to control emotions resulted in my involuntary desire to explore a risky pathway of love.
William started to become frustrated that Henry kept his body turned around so he did not have to look at him while he
