God Is Great - Peter James

    INTRODUCTION

For the sake of clarity, this book is written with the ‘K.I.S.S.1 concept in mind and has more than enough scriptural quotes to offend everyone, except seekers of truth.

Within the many debates between Christopher Hitchens and Dinesh D’Souza, Christopher stated, in an almost pleading way, Why doesn’t anyone just use scripture to debate me? I would have more respect for them. This came after quoting Jesus’ words at John 14:6

…no one comes to the Father except through me. NASB

Christopher was correct when he said, No one knows the mind of God and should not presume to speak for Him. When religious leaders do not use the Bible in discussions and debates, man-made religion gets started and poisons everything.

Man-made religion certainly poisoned Christopher, as well as others. In one of Christopher’s last interviews before his untimely death, his friend, Richard Dawkins, presented him with an award, giving a most eloquent, wonderful, and precise tribute to Christopher Hitchens. Christopher could not say, as he does many times at the beginning of his debates, Thank you for that terse introduction. No, Mr. Dawkins captured how most people felt, me included, about this great, intellectual and brilliant man.

In each of Christopher’s debates, his antagonists debated Christopher on his own turf, using science, philosophy, secular church history and quoting as many books and authors as possible, using double-point scrabble words (sesquipedalian).

Using those tactics, all of the religious leaders failed miserably. Why? It is simple: Christopher did a splendid job at the podium describing these religions and their sanguinary history, while the well-educated, so-called Christian religious leaders stayed far away from quoting the Bible, preferring instead to say things like, The Bible is filled with allegory, metaphor, and contradictions. They basically turned their backs on the admonition given at 2nd Timothy 3:16,17 where we read,

All scripture is inspired of God and is beneficial for teaching, reproving, and setting things straight. NKJV

To call oneself a Christian, one must be Christ-like following Jesus’ example, using the Bible. When setting things straight, for example, Matthew 4:6 shows us each time Jesus answered saying, It is written (NASB) in this case quoting from the book of Deuteronomy.

Jesus also said at John 7:16-18,

I speak not my words but he that sent me… whoever speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory. NIV

You will see with my research of the Bible in Chapter 2; I believe 100% the Bible is the inspired word of God. I also believe 100% in the verses at 2 Timothy 3:16,17.

Why not let the Bible interpret itself instead of speaking for the Bible, and thereby poisoning everything?

In the Bible, there are over 31,000 thoughts from God. True, they are situated in a way to stay hidden from the pompous, self-important, grandiose religious leaders of our day. When viewing the debates, you will hear these men starting off a sentence with "I think God does this... I think God wants or I think God… This is the very reason why man-made religion poisons everything" - because it is man’s thoughts and not God’s.

Why should this be so important to you? Jesus gives a warning at Matthew 7:13,14 and right before this scripture, Jesus tells us what we need to do. He adds,

Broad and spacious is the road leading to destruction whereas cramped and narrow is the road leading to life, and few are the ones finding it. NIV

Pew report expresses 7 billion people are in the organized religions of the world, according to their report approximately 4.9 billion make up Christendom and Islam forum, hardly a cramped and narrow road.

It has been estimated millions of people lived at the time of the flood in Noah’s day, and only eight survived. Before the flood came, what were men, women and their children doing wrong which warranted their being destroyed? In the Bible, Matthew 24:38,39 tells us

…they were doing the ordinary things of life, such as eating and drinking, men marrying, and women being given into marriage, and they took NO NOTE, and the flood waters came and swept them all away. REF

God’s not big on numbers, but He is big on worshipping in spirit and truth as written in John 4:24. NIV

Why not take your Bible out and follow along with me, looking up every scripture, even if it is already quoted? This book will give you a solid scriptural answer to the questions and accusations brought up by Christopher in the debates. Christopher was brilliant against the religious leaders debating him, but as smart as he was, he was no match for God.

If you watch the debates, you might say Christopher used the Bible more than his opponents; however, the following pages will endeavor to rectify this oversight. Even if you have read the Bible cover-to-cover or if you will be viewing scripture for the first time, in the pages to follow, you will come away with a completely different understanding than what you have been taught by man-made religion.

Before you dismiss this way of thinking, turn to Chapter Four entitled: Where Are the Dead? /You’re Going Straight to Hell for That One! See for yourself if this is what you were taught by man-made religion. Yes, grab your Bible. It’s a challenge!

    Chapter 1

    List of YouTube Debates

My opinion on the late and sometimes great, but always brilliant, Mr. Hitchens was poisoned by the sanguinary history of religion, the way it has poisoned in our time and in years past, as he states, by man-made rules and teachings. If you were fortunate enough to have heard any of Christopher’s debates regarding his book, god is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything and really listen to how he defends his position, you would hear, albeit with great reluctance, a plea for biblical understanding.

However, very little from the Bible was ever quoted. Indeed, for whatever reason - because they did not know their Bible, or because they were guided by ego
