    About the author

    I

Adele arrived at Greystones a little more than two in the afternoon. The day was beautiful, and the sun was shining like never before. It hadn't rained on the road, and she felt lucky.

She parked her modern and luxurious car in front of the house and came down. Adele looked at the grandeur of that mansion and found that her uncle Henry Evans was a man who knew how to live his life with pleasure. Having a house in the country, 20 minutes from Brighton and about an hour away from London, was a real blessing. Her mother's twin brother, her dear uncle Henry, had passed away seven days ago, and as Adele was away from London, unfortunately, she couldn't attend the funeral; she had no idea why she had been summoned to the reading of the will.

The house outside was all built with grey stones, imposing and grand, so the name Greystones. Built-in 1801, it took at least five years to get that mansion up and running, and her uncle was very proud to have lived there all his life. Taking a deep breath, Adele climbed the stairs made of impeccably clean white marble. At the door, a lion-shaped knocker made of gold she used to knock on the door and be heard.

    - Miss Adele Evans Green! How are you? Please come in. - Gerald Harris greeted her with a slight reverence and a half-smile. Gerald, the butler for fifty years, together with his son Brian, who is the family's lawyer, took care of everything after her uncle's death since Henry's only son was also out of London.

    - How have you been doing? - she asked, entering the house and already smelling the aroma of tea, so known for years.

    - We are sad, Miss Adele, but happy that you have arrived. - The butler's voice was sensible and polite.

    - Thank you very much, Gerald - Adele spoke delicately. - The feeling I have is that Uncle Henry is still here. - She spoke sadly. Gerald did not answer and invited her to sit down.

    - Please come. I'll bring you some tea and bring you up to date. Your bags will be taken to your old room while we talk, just a moment I will call Jean.

    - How is Amelia? - Adele asked while she was sitting on the large leather sofa.

    - We are all fine, despite the circumstances. Thank you, Miss Adele. Excuse me. - Gerald left with a little reverence and left her alone with her thoughts in the big tea room. Adele observed everything is so well taken care of, furniture in perfect condition, everything clean and organized. Uncle Henry was a very lucky person indeed and very blessed.

Adele realized that her whole life was coming and going from London to Greystones; this was her second home, she loved it all. Her mother and her uncle Henry had a very deep connection. Adele's mother had also passed away. Her Uncle Henry had never married, but adopted a twelve-year-old boy. Gerald came back with a tray of tea and took Adele out of her daydreams.

    - Two lumps of sugar? - asked Gerald.

    - Yes, please.

    - Mr. Michael will arrive at any moment; he went to Brighton to settle some matters related to the will. - said Gerald, serving tea.

    - Gerald, why exactly am I here? I don't understand! Uncle Henry already has his rightful heir, and I don't see the need for me to be part of the reading of this will.

    - Don't ask me, Miss Adele. I'm just the butler, - Gerald answered politely. Adele knew that Gerald was much more than a butler. He was, first of all, a friend of her Uncle Henry's. She took her tea in silence, and Gerald did not say a word.

    - Would you like to lie down before dinner? - Gerald asked.

    - Yes. I'm going to take a shower and rest a bit. Is the 6:30 dinner still on? - she asked, arching an eyebrow.

    - Nothing has changed, Miss Adele. Dinner will be on time at 6:30.

Adele climbed the steps to her usual room. Everything was as it always was. Henry liked to say that there was an extension of her house, and she really felt that way.

When she entered her old room, she went straight to the window and looked outside, her car had already left from where she parked, and her bags were already by the side of the closet.

She was not surprised to see a car arriving. She kept looking and saw when Michael came down. He was pure class and charm; he was dressed in a light suit that exhaled masculinity.

His black and straight hair was well behaved, seen from above. Adele kept watching Gerald talking to him as he shook his head, listening carefully.

Suddenly he looks up and their eyes meet. Adele opens a smile for Michael, and he gives back with another wonderful one, despite being a sad smile. When did this man get so handsome? Adele thought as she left the window. My God!

Thanks to her uncle, who was a man who liked modernity, Adele had a hot shower, a real luxury; only very wealthy families had showers. Adele didn't like baths; Greystones having a shower was a great relief. She got out of the renewing water and put a robe that was already on the bed. Resting a little before dinner: that would be her goal.

London followed the current fashion. The clothes were dark and very serious. Adele was different; she didn't follow fashion. She wore what felt good for her and never gave importance to what others thought. That's why she had several long pants. In 1930, only a few artists wore pants, and Adele adopted this style, regardless of the women or men who looked at her crooked. It was a true glory to be able to walk without that many layers that the dresses demanded.

She lay on the soft, cozy bed, barely closed her eyes, and was already sound asleep.

Adele woke up with a light knock on the door. She looked at her bedside clock and found that she slept for about two hours.

    - Come in. - She spoke sleepily.

    - Good afternoon Miss Adele. - Magee said, entering the room. - How are you?

    - Good afternoon, Magee. I'm fine, thanks. I think I slept too much - Adele answered by sitting on the bed.

    - Take your time. We still have an hour until dinner. Would you like me to help you fix your hair? - Magee asked solicitously.

    - No. You can let me get ready in a moment, and I'll be right down. Thanks a lot. - Adele answered.

Magee left, and Adele got up. Her clothes were all hanging out, and others were kept in the drawers of the big dresser. The efficiency of Henry's servants was impressive.

Everything continued as if he was not gone. Unexpectedly, Adele felt alone and lost. Uncle Henry was her last family, her parents had already passed away, and now she was completely alone. She had no brothers and no cousins. At twenty-four, it's me and nobody else, Adele thought.

She had already received wedding proposals countless times, but she wouldn't get married for safety or solitude. Her father left her with a good fortune, and when her mother passed, she inherited all that was left of hers. She wouldn't have to work for the rest of her life, but she never liked the idle life, that's why she wrote. She had already published three books with a male pseudonym, and she was happy about it.

Adele finished tidying up and went downstairs, hoping to meet Michael before dinner. Even before reaching the last step of the stairs, she heard Michael talking to Gerald. His voice was low and weighted.

    - Hello. - Adele said, announcing her arrival, looking at the two men. They both looked in admiration. Adele's beauty was impressive. Michael came to meet them.

    - Welcome to Greystones, my dear. - Michael opened his arms as a sign of welcome.

    - Michael.... - Adele said, embracing him and feeling his arms around him. - How are you doing? - she asked, pulling away a little and looking at his face.

    - What can I say? - Michael walked away. - It's very sad and painful not having a dad anymore. - Michael looked really sad and shaken. Adele noticed deep dark circles around his eyes, and the grief was visible. - Sit down. How was the trip to Greystones? - Michael asked solicitously.

    - I did well, in spite of everything. - she replied meticulously. - I'm sorry, dear. It's really a shame that after so many years, we have to find ourselves in these circumstances. - Adele's eyes were filled with tears.

    - Very sad indeed - he answered unhappily.

    - Michael... I didn't understand your call. - she spoke, looking carefully at him. - As far as I know, the only legitimate heir is you, right?

    - If Dad didn't change his will - Michael spoke quietly - you will also be included.

    - What? – Adele was intrigued. - Uncle Henry would never do that to you, Michael!

    - Do what, dear? You know I've never cared for money, and I have more than I could spend. Let's wait, and tomorrow we'll know what daddy would really like to be done after his death.

The two were completely silent, and Adele took a moment to analyze Michael. Even though he was down, he was still a beautiful man.

At thirty, he was tall, six feet and nine inches tall, thin, perfect face, emerald green eyes, dark and straight hair. A true Greek God. Adele knew that he was also analyzing her, but nothing showed in his countenance that he found her beautiful or sexy.

Michael couldn't believe Adele had become so attractive, beautiful, and sexy. She became a beautiful woman and blossomed as never before. And wearing long pants! What do you know! Her curves are perfect. He thought.

Adele had blue eyes, like her father's and her mother's, she was beautiful in stature, five foot and eight inches, thin, in the right measure, very light brown hair, almost blonde, wavy at the ends, and a body to make any eighteen-year-old girl jealous. Was she twenty-four or twenty-five years old? Michael couldn't remember. But after ten years without meeting, he was simply baffled by her beauty. She exhumed sexuality. The silence was getting embarrassing, and Michael decided to break it. - So, how
