This is a lovely little book that gives us how to do battle with the Evil One, what weapons we have available, and what prayerful attitude we must take. The next book to be read should be Sister’s fasting book, if we really want to defeat the Devil, as this book encourages us to. This little book can be read in one sitting, so it’s just the right size to buoy us up. Enjoy!

Introduction

Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

(eph 6:11)

St. Paul’s exhortation in his Letter to the Ephesians clearly sets the tone; from the outset, we are warned and cautioned: the Christian life, where prayer is the cutting edge, draws us onto a battlefield and calls us to fight an actual battle. The adversary, the Devil, is named and exposed. We learn that he is a sneaky, powerful and invisible angel. We then find ourselves a bit like little David against Goliath. But we are not alone in this struggle: God himself protects us with the armor of his love, and we receive weapons from him that enable us to resist and be victorious.

One of the first things we must be aware of is that this battle is first and foremost a struggle against ourselves, against the passions that arouse us, the wounds that have harmed us, the negative consequences and tendencies they may have generated within us (doubt, sadness, anger, jealousy, revolt, violence, despair, etc.).. These are the precise points where
