About this workbook
This workbook will help you bring to life in your classrooms the ideas and techniques laid out in Take Control of the Noisy Class.
Its aim is to help teachers and support staff to improve their effectiveness in the classroom using the Needs Focused Teaching philosophy.
Each of the 13 chapters in the book is structured into 5 main sections:
1. Resources. This section provides page references for relevant material in Take Control of the Noisy Class. Where applicable, additional Needs Focused resources, such as videos and books, will also be listed.
2. Key concepts. These are the main ideas and critical understandings in each phase of the Needs Focused Classroom Management process.
3. Focus questions. These questions guide your reading of Take Control of the Noisy Class as a basis for personal reflection, or for discussion during weekly Study Group meetings (see below).
4. Activities. The activities provide opportunity to delve deeper into, and practise, implementing the skills, techniques and ideas outlined in Take Control of the Noisy Class and associated resources, through a variety of tasks and scenarios.
5. Share your ideas. Here you have the opportunity to contribute (and receive feedback on) your suggestions and answers in a private forum, along with other readers of the workbook.
In some chapters an additional section is provided: Additional Reading. This section, where relevant, provides extra background information on the techniques being taught.
There is an optional Initial Assessment at the start of the book and a final Review Assessment at the end, to gauge progress made using the materials.
