The Scholarship Algorithm - Carlynn D Greene
Dedication
This book is dedicated to all the students, mentors, educators, counselors, coaches, and parents of students responsible for funding their education or encouraging them to pursue their education.
In the words of the late Nelson Mandela —
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
And my job with this book is to make sure that education is more accessible to you.

During my high school senior year, I won a lot of scholarships and years later, I am still winning — 25 for a total of $90,000. On top of that, I have helped students in the U.S. and globally win collectively $1.2 million in scholarships — from as close as Arizona to as far as Indonesia and Sudan. And note that this number only accounts for those who have personally told me that they won. I imagine that the total is actually 5x more.
Rather than keeping all my secret techniques to scoring so many scholarships, I’m here to share and pass on the wealth of knowledge that I have.
College is expensive, and it gets more and more expensive every single year. And of course, it` doesn’t help that the minimum wage and average household incomes haven’t seen much of a rise, which makes it even harder for people to afford college.
Not enough people know what it takes to win scholarships. There’s a lot of misinformation out there, as well as tips that are too generalized, outdated, or vague in helping a student with the process. And that is why I wrote this book. This book serves as a means to bridge the gap — and I hope it helps you win!
Acknowledgements
I would like to thank:
My parents and all their support towards my education.
My mentor, Chase, and her non-profit, Coach The Youth, for giving me my first ever laptop — this was the laptop I used to find/apply for scholarships during my senior year of high school.
My counselor from high school, Mr. Fitz, who would often encourage and notify me about scholarships.
My professors, Dr. McElroy and Dr. Fellows and my classmate, Jasmine, who wrote my letters of recommendation that aided in awarding me several scholarships. Also, I want to thank them for being the ones responsible for further improving my writing skills and work ethic.
The University of North Texas and the Mayborn School of Journalism for all the exposure and opportunities afforded to me through this mission of mine.
All the scholarship committees who have ever awarded me.
And of course — my YouTube subscribers, clients, and those who purchased the book, such as yourself! Thank you.
Introduction
From this book, you will be equipped with resources and techniques I have used to land back-to-back scholarships.
The advice seen in this book has yet to be reiterated elsewhere from other existing blogs, scholarship books, videos — and most of the content has yet to be disclosed on my YouTube channel, ESP Daniella. If you would like an even more in-depth learning experience on how to win scholarships, consider enrolling in my online course. You will be 5x more likely to win with the entire four-part book, yet 10x more likely to win scholarships learning from the course.
The scholarship process is very tedious and can be quite time-consuming and stressful depending on the demands of certain applications. However, you must stay encouraged and you must keep applying. Think of it as a part-time job that will pay you sooner or later.
I’ve applied for well over 100 scholarships from the summer of 2016 to the summer of 2020. From that, I saw more rejection than anything. But instead of thinking I couldn't win because there were others more qualified or smarter, I learned from my mistakes, analyzed what I could do to make my application stronger and more convincing, and once I did that, I finally was able to decode what I like to call, The Scholarship Algorithm.
So, with that all being said, just know that you may be in for the long-run for this entire process — or perhaps you can win enough in scholarships right from the very beginning. Either way, stay encouraged, don’t give up, and be consistent! I had to be consistent for four years, and I’m proud to say that all the hard has paid off.
I expect to graduate in spring 2021 debt-free!
