Becoming A Better Me 10 Steps Towards Your Destiny - Nikisha Grinstead

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to the people who deposited in me during this process. I would not be here, nor would this book have been written, nor would my life be what it is now if it were not for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I could write a book just on Him, and I believe one day I may, but let me get through this one first. If I had a limit on who I could dedicate this book to, it would be Him, hands down. This is His book. I was just the person He chose to write it. It has been a hard journey to get my words down on paper, but through His power and strength, I was able to complete it.

Thank You Jesus, for creating me, thank You for choosing me and thank You for never giving up on me, even when I gave up on myself. All the Glory belongs to You. Through this whole process I leaned on You. I came to You, and just like then, now I am trusting You will bring the right eyes to this book, and You will determine what happens with this book. Thank You Father, for trusting me with this assignment. This one is for you. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name (John 15:16). Thank You Jesus, for choosing me.

To my kings, you three are my motivation. You are my driving force, and I can’t thank God enough for blessing me with you. Thank you for looking at me the way you do. I feel nothing but love and amazement when I look into your eyes. All of you believe in me, and that’s enough reason for me to desire for the three of you to be proud of me. You are my light and my hope, and, in this world, you mean the most to me.

Kevin Louis Grinstead Sr., my better half, my love, my partner in prayer, my ride or die, my list of things, thank you for thinking the world of me. There is nothing I can’t do in your eyes except clean up, but you even encourage me in that area. You motivate me solely in my passion for motivating you. I pray that in the completion of this book, it will inspire you to go after everything God has for you. Kevin Jr. and Korbyn G. my goal is to create generational wealth for you. Everything Mommy does is for you two. I wrote this book to prove to you that you can do anything you put your mind to. I will continue pushing forward with the hopes of inspiring you three and making you proud of me. Some may say writing isn’t a path for me, but I’m here. The bible says, For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength, (Phil 4:13); this means there is nothing too hard for you. I love you three with my whole heart.

To my parents, you did it, you raised a woman after God’s own heart, and there is no failure within that. I thank you for instilling faith within me and keeping me before God because it allowed me to be favored on all playing fields. The bible says, Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it (Prov 22:6, NLT). Thank you for instilling in me your God-given guidance. I love you both.

To my sisters, thank you for letting me lead the way. Thank you for believing in me beyond what I imagined you could feel. Sometimes I think you two dream bigger for me than I do for myself, and there are no words for that. You two are my first best friends, and the two that I would give my life for, so I dedicate this book to you. I pray that it inspires you to take any leap you’ve wanted to make. I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit (Rom 15:13 NLT).

To my grandparents, the past years have been very trying for you. You three have dealt with a lot, from the incarceration of your sons to sickness striking your bodies. These trials forced me to accomplish completing this book as an effort to make you proud while we are still blessed with your presence on this earth. A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health (Prov 15:30, NLT); joy is here to stay.

To my family, thank you for inspiring me through your inspiration of me. Thank you for being there whenever I needed you and for allowing me to be there for you. Thank you for your constant support and love. That is what pushes me to do all that I am doing. To my aunt’s, thank you for being great role models and an even greater support system. To my Uncle Tankman, I have the perfect book for you to read, thank you for loving me and pushing me in your own way that I appreciate and understand. To my cousins, ya’ll know who you are and what you mean to me (Flip the Switch). I hope I’m making you all proud.

To my friends who I have known the longest, thank you for still being by my side. Loyalty is everything to me, and y’all know I love to ride, so I want to tell you that you all are the real MVShe’s for still riding with me. To my friends who have come along in the past few years, thank you for opening my eyes to Divine Connections. It is true that people can come into your life for a short period of time and deposit more into a person than someone who has been there for a lifetime. Thank you for taking my gas tank from empty to full. This has been an amazing season of people depositing into me. You are all the greatest. Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble (Eccl 4:9-10, NLT).

To my pastors, God’s timing is impressive. I am thankful He allowed you two to be my shepherds for such a time a this. Thank you for your words of encouragement, your discipleship, and always holding me accountable. You made sure I remembered the goal. Your leadership is admirable. Thank you for allowing God to use you. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart (Gal 6:9, NKJV).

This book is also dedicated to you, the one who reads it. You are the real inspiration behind the words. You were on my heart every step of the way. If you didn’t exist, this book would be pointless. So, thank you for being you. My prayer is for you to be elevated in this season. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward (Matt 10:41, NKJV).

I love You Lawrence Jacob Walker. I know You would be Proud.

    INTRODUCTION

This book was placed in my spirit in 2017. I found every reason under the sun why this book couldn’t happen, but no matter what I thought or felt about this book, writing it surround me. In my mind, I wasn’t good enough to be an author. I was content with encouraging people with word of mouth or through my social media platforms. I did not understand there was a whole tribe of people waiting for me to release what God has placed on the inside of me. I have to be honest with you; in 2017, I wasn’t writing anything outside of my schoolwork. I wasn’t about to read any books not on my syllabus, and if I can be brutally honest, I was barely reading the books required of me to read. Let’s not get into writing papers. I hated it. So, writing a book was way off of my radar.

At a low point in 2018, I became desperate to being obedient to God’s voice. This desperation caused me to read books to enhance my spiritual journey and my walk with God. I started to read books for self-development and found most of my favorites were actually leadership books. I read the most I have ever read in my entire life during that season.

Every book was different. Every author had his or her different approach, but the message was the same. They had just delivered them in his/her own way. This gave me a little confidence to get started.

I grabbed one of my son’s black and white composition books and started writing. I was amazed at how quick I was able to fill that little composition book with my words. One day, I was preparing to take a bath and get some more writing done in my little black and white composition book, which I know that may seem weird to some, but my bathroom is my sacred space, my sanctuary, the place where my mind runs free.

I prayed before I got started because I knew I was coming to the end of my first book. I said, God, this is it. I’m about to move forward on this book stuff. I continued filling the pages with my words, and I couldn’t believe it. I was almost done writing. However, not too long after praying my prayer, and seeing my words fill the last of the remaining pages, I heard a splash. Yep, all the words I wrote in that little black and white book fell right into the bathtub. Every page was wet and ruined.

Every word was smeared and almost illegible, but something was different in my reaction. I didn’t get upset. Instead, I laughed and said, I guess this wasn’t the one You wanted me to write. Almost immediately in that moment, God gave me the title of the book He wanted me to write, as well as the titles for each chapter. I heard Him say, you have to give my people the basics first.

All of this sounds good, but writing a book is a process, and I made it last much longer than it needed to be. This book didn’t have to take as long as it did, but I guess God wanted me to understand you have to go through some things before you are given more instructions. Thank You Jesus, because it unlocked more words inside of me that I know will help others. I have personally experienced every word written on each of the pages you are about to read. I thank God for preparing and positioning me to speak words of His truth and wisdom demonstrated in my life.

Make no mistake, even though I had the title of the book and the chapter titles outlined, it was still a process. I ran into more roadblocks, some of which took me longer to get through than others, but thank God I made it. I fought past my own demons and the enemy lies whispered, "no one wants to
