    If you are married to or the offspring of a very famous person your accomplishments are often eclipsed by the more famous one. This was truly the case for Martha Washington, wife of President George Washington, who was perhaps the most well-known man in the world during his era. But does Martha truly deserve the back seat of history? Probably not! Most of the pictures we see of her were painted during her advanced years, looking like a kindly grandmother ready to bake cookies. But a study of what we know of her life paints quite a different picture.
