7. More By Charlene Jones
An incredible read, this book is perfect for those needing a little more explanation in why
meditation works.
Combining the western medicine with eastern philos- ophy and traditions, Charlene is able to create a wholistic picture of the benefits of meditation both spiritually and scientifically.

5.0 out of 5 starsA MUST READ Reviewed in Canada on May 29, 2016 Format: Kindle Edition
Medicine Buddha/Medicine Mind is informative, timely, clear and accessible. It imparts what most of us have needed to know.
The medical world is just now discovering that we have always had the power to heal mind and body.
This book teaches the process.

I have been meditating for over 5 years and have always wondered how it really worked. As a left-brained
Computer professional I am inherently skeptical and look for real scientific explanations. This book was just what I was looking for. Medicine Buddha/Medicine Mind intro- duces the practise of Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana Tantric Meditation, followed by a Neuroscience 101
overview. Finally the 2 are linked together, using the Medicine Buddha visualization as an example and showing some of the benefits of meditation. In between there is lots of inter- esting history and background about some of the key players in these fields.
This is a great introductory book and will wet your interest to dive into more detailed reading by authors such as Norman Doidge. Tibetan Meditation uses a lot of confusing terminology and the author does a good job of introducing this subject and providing some great links for more details.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is an easy read and I read the book twice (the second time to dive into all the links as I read). I hope that Ms. Jones publishes a sequel
to dive into the topics in more detail.

Jones does a masterful job of clueing in any curious, uninformed reader about the positive consequences of meditation practice. She substantiates through referenced research, but also explains in a simple, easy-to-follow manner, how meditation works with brain functioning to create new neural pathways carved by positive visioning. She describes tried and true methods for training the brain to focus on beauty and peace, grace and generosity and, using disturbing events from her own life as evidence, convinces the reader that relief from pain can be achieved. I really like the discussion about neuroscience and how Medicine Buddha can help us rewire our brains, but I was really hoping the author would have gone into greater detail about the different parts of the meditation. I am just left wanting more from this book.
Molly Martin The Compulsive Reader
Medicine Buddha/Medicine Mind is a simple to read, stress- free method. Jones provides clear, common terms to aid the reader, as the writer explores the healing power of the mind. Though the book is only 92 pages, the work is not a quick read. It is meant to be studied, savoured, implemented.

For the audio version of Medicine Buddha Medicine Mind, Joe Bertin quickly captured the sense of mystery and a slight bit of magic in the evocative music he created. He also produced each file, often several times over, with a seemingly endless amount of patience. His sense of humour and confidence that we would create a beautiful audio book gave me the strength to learn and grow. Enormous gratitude from my heart!
A warm flow of gratitude goes to Sue Reynolds for her cover art.
Many thanks to Catherine Sword and Andy Makowski for their helpful comments during the creation of this work.
A special thank you from my heart to David Brazier of the Amida Institute for spontaneously taking the time to offer clarifying insights about earlier versions of this book and for writing the preface.
Preface By David Brazier
The conversation between Buddhism and neuroscience has picked up a lot of energy in the last few years. The very first meetings of the Mind and Life Institute were back in 1985, springing from the conversations between the Dalai Lama and Chilean scientist Francisco Varela. Since then, enthusiasm has grown and this dialogue has even contributed to a changing perception of science itself.
Compared with thirty years ago, scientists are now much less wary of considering and investigating subjective states and evidence emerging from introspective experiments. Most recently, the sudden coming into fashion of mindfulness as a means for reducing stress, aiding healing and generally improving life quality, not just in the medical domain, but
