Children's book author Ardis Glace believes that bios for people who have worked more than 50 years take too much time to read. However, readers will see the following influences in her books. • Metaphors and Symbolism. As a child she attended a church program where she first discovered metaphors and symbolism. The leader told the children that the band on his left hand was actually just a solid metal circle. Its importance was that it was a symbol of his marriage. ("This was very deep for a 4-year-old.") • Being a Good Example. It is a responsibility that each adult carries. ("Children remember everything. From the stop sign one rolls through to the words yelled at an umpire to the kindness one shows to others.") • Boundaries, Direction, and Teachable Moments. Kids respond to all three.
