POEMS
by
Tina Thurston
preface
Writing poetry began in my teen years. The rhymes flowed spontaneously while journaling. Journaling was first by school assignment in my teenage years which transitioned into a habit in adulthood.
I believe in the power of thoughts, they manifest experience. I believe in the power of words written. For me, words written no longer compete for space within my thoughts.
I was not aware of the self healing process through journaling until my mid-twenties. I was in therapy and was told I didn’t need to be there as I had already figured out the best therapy for me.
I was told to never stop writing.
In the three years since the first publication of this book there has been the opportunity for greater reflection and personal growth.
Rather than give power to the abuse that occured in my childhood by documenting it here as I did in the first edition, I would like to simply state to forgive is to move forward consciously and continuosly.
As we walk our path of healing from whatever trauma’s are experienced, please find a support system and know you are not alone. Know there are many resources available to assist in your growth to peace within. You are worthy. You are loved.
I am grateful to have the ability to create relatable art that gives thought to the emotional aspects of the human experience.
Let the poems tell the story. A journey of experience.

Why do I have to be here?
I really don’t know.
I try so hard to please them
but I guess it doesn’t show.
Everything has to be so hard for me
I wish I could know why.
Did I really agree to this before I came here,
to suffer all my life?
I wish I had my mother
so I could tell her how I feel,
but I know my thoughts to her, really don’t appeal.
She left me when I was young
to make it on my own.
Oh, how I want to see her today
so she can see how I’ve grown.
I wish I had a family so that I could have
