    Preface

The stories are inspired from life-changing incidents that I have observed closely. It talks about friendship, separation, love, regrets and second chance. Love and friendship can happen in the most unexpected ways and it may change our lives forever.

The stories deal with characters that make mistakes, that repent and that give a reflection of our own lives through them. My stories are intended for people of all age. The first story will pleasantly remind you of your first love while the second one talks about possibilities and hardships when fate and age does not favour you.

    Story 1

    Can I Say Again?

Once someone had asked what love meant to me. I did not have a specific answer then. I do not have a specific answer now. But maybe by the end of this story we will have a direction towards the answer.

    2019:

The rain looked unstoppable that day. We were only in the middle of July and the lakes had overflowed.

I was waiting for a rickshaw to reach home since half an hour, but all in vain. While waiting for the rickshaw, in the hindsight of my mind I realized how ruthless monsoon felt. It was tough to figure out how fond I used to be of rains.

Losing all hope to get a rickshaw, I started walking. On my way what caught my sight was some children floating paper boats in the water. No matter how ruthless and vicious monsoon seemed, there were always some people who enjoyed the beauty even in the days of calamities.

Our life is also somewhere similar. No matter how bad it seems to be, there will always be ways and reasons to look forward to the next day. And the world might not see the reasons but you have to find them out and sail through.

I reached home around 9 PM. My body was wet from head to toe. I quickly changed my clothes and cleaned all the mud patches off my feet. I was hungry by then, hence started boiling two eggs and put a pan on flame to prepare some sautéed vegetables. While I was on the way to home, mom had called three times to check whether I reached home. I had to call her, so I recalled.

To call my mom back, I searched for my mobile phone but it was not at its usual place. I searched it in my bag, pockets of my trouser and every possible place. I called on my number from the other mobile. It was ringing but no one answered. Neither was it switched off. There was no possibility for me to leave it in the office because while waiting for the rickshaw I remembered checking availability of OLA cabs. As far I could recollect, I had kept it in my pocket but it was not there. May be I had dropped it somewhere in the road, I thought.

I checked from my balcony and saw that the water level had risen on the roads. If I had dropped it on the road, it would have drowned in water by then.

I tried on my number again but it was switched off.

Next day was a Saturday and I had a day off. I bought a new SIM card and lodged a complaint for losing my mobile. The rain did not stop me from doing the needful chores either. It was still raining; I could see the cars and rickshaws floating on the water.

I returned home and took out the spare phone reluctantly.

It was a Samsung model with QWERTY keypad. Teenagers who could not afford a BlackBerry would buy this phone in the early twenty-tens. It was sturdy, simple, dear to me and obsolete. Yet it worked fine.

The phone that I lost was a recent iPhone model. I used some 7 different brands in last 6 years but I have this Samsung QWERTY Keypad obsolete phone as my constant and it will always remain.

It was 2 in the afternoon; I played a song from my old playlist. The playlist had seven Bollywood romantic songs. The ones that I used to listen in loop on my way to College and way back home. Now similar songs sound lame to me but these were the ones that made my days better 6 years ago.

    My guilty pleasures even now.

I was enjoying listening to them over a cup of hot coffee. The rain seemed to get stronger outside.

I sat near my window, enjoying the cool breeze around. The trees outside my colony looked lush green after continuous rain
