Katalyna - DeAndre' West
The Cage
It was a Tuesday night and Katalyna had just come home from a drive to clear her mind after a fight with her husband.
Sigh
Katalyna took in a deep breath as she stared at herself in the rear-view mirror of her car in the driveway of her home. She noticed the black eye was still visible under her makeup. Her skin was gently kissed by the sun, her lips full, her eyes completely drained of life, and her hair was coarse and full as it tickled her shoulder. She was beautiful, but she didn’t know it. Standing at 5’7", 143lbs and a figure that many admired, she hated herself.
Her entire life resides inside of her home – no friends, no family, just her depression, her husband and her determination to leave. She began staring at her house because she knew under the Halloween decorations the exterior told a story of success, love, and hard work, but the inside told a horrific story of agony, betrayal, and misguided love. The windows were barred to keep her from escaping but secretly everyday she goes to the kitchen window and plays with the screws. It’s loose but not loose enough.
Katalyna exited her car and slowly approached her home. She opened the door and it was dark except a single light lit in the dining room. She made her way towards the light.
Terry? Is that you in the dining room? Did you set dinn…
She was interrupted by the site of her husband Terry sitting at the dining room table naked, a masked woman sitting in his lap and a large canvas with its back facing her. He cupped the woman’s breast and began kissing her. Katalyna noticed her suitcases that she secretly packed before their fight were on the table. Terry made eye contact with Katalyna but her presence did not stop him.
She was speechless and the only thing she knew to do was leave, she ran for the front door but heard Terry running behind her.
She was able to open the door, but it was quickly slammed shut by Terry’s body weight.
Where did you go? You…you trying to leave me? You went to him, didn’t you?
he questioned with a menacing look in his eyes.
Terry, there is no him, I’ve told you this several times.
Katalyna stated as she gripped her purse tighter.
Then why the hell do you keep packing bags and leaving this damn house without my permission?!
He yelled as he snatched her purse from her hands and threw it on the floor.
Katalyna crouched down in fear with her hands over her head.
Terry looked down at her and noticed she didn’t have her wedding ring on.
He became irate, quickly grabbed her purse and began dumping it out onto the floor while yelling Where the hell is it!
Where is what Terry?
she fearfully questioned.
He looked at her, snatched her left hand, pulled her up and shoved her left hand in her face. Your wedding ring!
He yelled before throwing her to the floor.
Terry used his feet to move the objects from her purse around the floor until finally her ring was exposed.
His eyes filled with tears, he smiled, picked up the ring, grabbed Katalyna’s left hand and forcefully placed the ring back on her finger. He crouched down beside her while cuffing her hand and kissed her on the forehead.
The sound of his bare feet slowly descended the hallway, Katalyna looked up from her position and began to slowly reach for the door. Once she had her hand on the knob she felt Terry’s daring presence stand over her with a drill and some screws. He hit her hand with the drill forcing her hand off the knob.
Terry began drilling the door shut forcing her inside.
Once he finished he grabbed her face, smiled and said, Take it off again and I will kill you, leave this house again and I will kill you, understand me?
He got up and stood over Katalyna who was shaking as she began to slowly place things back into her purse.
She slowly stood upon feet and attempted to walk by him.
He grabbed her arm and swung her back into the door causing the doorknob to jam into her back.
No, you’re going to be a part of this!
he said while ripping the purse out of her hand once again. She attempted to struggle but he was too strong.
No Terry, please. Please Terry stop!
Katalyna yelled as he began to rip her clothes off and drag her naked body into their bedroom. She kicked
