Daniel Tracy

When God called this southern-Californian to go to Germany in 1977, Daniel Tracy (born in 1952) could never have imagined that he would meet his American wife, Cynthia, (from South Dakota) in that country and that they would raise their six children there over the following three decades. In the years before the Berlin Wall came down and Communism fell, Daniel and Cynthia served the church behind the Iron Curtain by providing Bibles, Christian literature, ministry in teaching, preaching and worship, and humanitarian help. They served as pastors of the CIDA-Center (Christ Is The Answer) in Trostberg - located in the middle of south-eastern Bavaria in Germany - from 1993 to 2012. Since the founding of the German branch in 1990, Daniel has been involved in Derek Prince Ministries - first as President of the Board and since 1994 as its Director. He and Cynthia also serve on the Board of Christian Friends of Israel in Germany. Serving God and His church by providing clear, easy to understand and practical Bible teaching as well as through encouraging the Body of Christ into a more intimate relationship with God through worship and praise in order to "...equip the saints for their work of service" summarizes their understanding of God's calling on their lives. In partnership with their adult children and their spouses, the family organization, Azar GbR, was founded in 2005 to help fulfill that calling. The word Azar is Hebrew and encompasses the following meanings: "to undergird, to support, to build up, to prepare for battle, to serve."

Under the Radar – The Race is Not Over!

    Foreword

It does not take a big name to make a big impact – all it takes is simple obedience to God for Him to use you to make a big difference in your generation. Some of the greatest miracles happen as we are willing to walk with Jesus Under the Radar....

This book is not meant to be a biography – although I’ve incorporated a lot of information about my life in an attempt to put the amazing things that God has done into perspective. It is also not meant to be historically exact – the passage of time has certainly clouded some details that I have not been able to reconstruct with 100% accuracy. It is also not meant to romanticize or glamorize what I or any of the others mentioned in this book accomplished during the times described. Rather, my goal is to express my unending gratitude to my Lord Jesus Christ for saving me from a normal life and allowing me and my family to experience His faithfulness, grace and awesome power in His practical and loving intervention in human history for the sake of His people – and the journey is not over yet!

I pray that you, dear reader, will be drawn closer to Jesus by this selection of true stories. That you will find faith to trust Him more deeply on your journey through life under the shadow of His mighty wings and that you will recognize more clearly the many times He has intervened in your own life. That you will be inspired to simply burst forth with praise and thanksgiving for the privilege you have to know Him who has begun a good work in you – and who is indeed faithful to complete it!

And if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior yet, I pray that this book will motivate you to open up and invite Him to come and dwell in your heart and fill you with His Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, crucified to pay for your sins, dead and buried and after three days risen from the dead to completely defeat the enemy of our souls and pave the way for us into this wonderful, eternal relationship with our Father in Heaven.

    Acknowledgements

My wife, my precious Cindy, has courageously walked through all of the challenges of faith described in this book – and many more besides – while at times having to carry more than her normal share of caring for our six children. Her practical faith has inspired and encouraged me – and kept my feet on the ground where I would have certainly gone overboard in my idealistic zeal. We have gone through stormy times and peaceful times, through thick and thin, and by the grace of God we have grown and are still together and in love after 37 years of marriage. Thank you Cindy, for your fighting spirit – that you never gave up on me and never compromised on what you knew to be right.

Our six children have had the privilege of experiencing the power and the faithfulness of God in wonderful ways, but have also faced the challenges of living in a missionary family, being pastor’s kids, standing up for the truth of Scripture in a secular, humanistic system, and dealing with the discipline and responsibility that comes with a large family. I want to say thank you to all of our children and their spouses, Amber & Ewald, Matthew, Chrissy, Timothy & Conny, Nathan & Christa, Mandy & Manfred and Michael and Janine for standing by us, for praying for us, for loving us, for forgiving us, for loving Jesus and serving Him. You are wonderful people – precious in our sight and in the sight of God and we love you!

A special thanks to my sister, Patty Perrin, my son-in-law, Ewald Sutter, my son, Timothy and my daughter-in-law, Christine for their suggestions and help in editing this manuscript and lending their graphical talents to the finished book!

    1. In the fullness of Time...

„O God, please keep them from opening the back of the truck! I prayed fervently, as I watched the East German police car pull in front of me. It was early winter and I had been sitting in the cold cab of my disabled seven-and-a-half ton rental truck for hours. It was getting dark and the time limit on my transit visa through the DDR was running out. Just having a flat tire wouldn’t have been so bad. Hans, the brother driving the other truck in our relief convoy, and I had made enough of these bread delivery" runs through Communist Eastern Germany into Poland to know that God was watching over us. The hard part was discovering that the truck had no spare tire!

Even with a full cargo of relief goods surrounding the even more precious load of Christian books and Bibles, we managed to hoist the truck high enough to remove the damaged tire and send Hans off on a long detour to West Berlin to get a replacement; a trip that would take over eight hours at best! So there I sat, a seven-and-a-half ton lame duck sitting on the
