About this ebook

Magical break-ins abound…

The two nearby stores owned by supernaturals are broken into. The Fix 'n' Find, my store, is not. What I have instead are suspicious magical handprints on the front windows. Combine that with a weird set of glasses that let the wearer see every type of magic and we have a serious conundrum. Luckily, my ex-fiancé Violetta, is a powerful witch and willing to help me figure out what could possibly be going on.

Find out what some magical items and good old-fashioned spell work can uncover in the Spectacle Stealing Supernatural

THANK YOU TO MY EDITOR Lacie at Pelican Proofing and proofreader Rose David. You ladies made this book readable for everyone.

Thank you to Get Covers for giving this book such a beautiful cover. I want to add a thanks to my beta readers for letting me know this story is worth reading.

As always, thank you to my friends and family who cheer me on as I work toward my dream of being a full-time author.

Last of all, but not least, is the Hubster. Although he hates to be mentioned, he deserves credit for all his support.

    Chapter 1

I’M NOT GETTING THE wish-granting music box back? I ask Blake, raising an eyebrow.

Blake’s gruff greeting is accompanied by him sliding a form across the counter informing me the supernatural police department is keeping the carousel music box as it is deemed too dangerous for regular use. He plops a thick plastic bag on the counter with the other items confiscated last week after a goblin, poisoned by his delusional cousin, died in my shop. Honestly, I didn't expect them to give the carousel back to me, but it still irks me every time they take things. I half expect them to come back any day now and take the compact I bought from that same goblin family, which holds some kind of vortex in it. Apparently, a music box that grants your deepest desires is more dangerous than a makeup compact hiding a tornado.

Sorry, Jas, it doesn't look like it, Blake replies as he lets go of the bag. On the plus side, you're getting all the books back. He glances around the shop before frowning at me. Bailey? She's usually up here wiggling my welcome by now.

A couple low flying planes went over the shop today, making her nervous. She decided to spend the morning in the back with Sven. If she heard you come in, Sven would have to decide to get up and let her out of his office in order for her to come say hello.

Ah. He sticks his hands in his jacket pockets and I hear keys jingle.

Blake is a werewolf and my best friend. The two of us have been friends since we roomed in college together. We comfortably shoot the breeze for hours—so him standing there awkwardly, clearly uncomfortable is not normal and I grow wary.

    What's going on, Blake?

The supernatural detective glances at the door before pulling his hands out of his pockets. Have you seen any strange or unusual people wandering the parking lot the last few days?

I snort. Is that a trick question?

For all intents and purposes my shop, Fix ‘n’ Find, appears to be a regular antique store, but it isn’t. This shop is where you come to find magical objects that typically can’t be found in other places. Sure, there are non-magical items such as elfin wedding china. But there are also items, like the compact and a trashcan lid magically enchanted to become a large shield. Asking about anyone strange is like asking somebody from Washington state if it rained lately.

Yeah, yeah, I get it, all right. Blake rolls his eyes. I mean weirder than usual.

Why do you ask? I fold my arms across my chest and frown at my friend.

Blake's shoulders slump and he glances out the front door, making sure no one is heading in. When he seems sure we have a certain amount of privacy he turns back to me.

You know you're not the only supernatural business in this shopping center.

It wasn't worth the response. I own the building my shop is in. The other two buildings of the shopping center are still owned by my mother. It is passive income for her, and she pays me to work as property manager, since she is currently living in Florida with her boyfriend, Gary. I am well aware of the tenants in the shops and apartments.

When I don't respond Blake continues. "There was a break-in at the clothing boutique across the way. None of the actual merchandise was taken, neither was the money. But several enchanted items the elves had in the back were taken. They all appear to be run-of-the-mill objects, whoever took them had to be someone with some kind of ability to know what they really are.

"Then there's the independent shipping and paper products store kitty-corner from you. It's the same deal. The real expensive pens and such they didn't take. However, the more supernatural-centered items such as spellbound calligraphy pens and enchanted parchments were scattered about the store and some of the more expensive and rarer objects were taken.

I've been checking with the local human police. I told them I’m a P.I. hired by the property manager, as I assume you don't care if I pretend you hired me. He waves his left hand at me as he says property manager. And it looks like none of the regular human-run stores have had problems recently. It’s weird that yours is the only supernaturally owned store in the strip not broken into.

Frowning, I ponder why none of the tenants have come to me about break-ins. I would expect them to tell me, though if it was only magical items taken maybe they figure the supernatural police were better contacts?

    All the supernatural tenants, both
