Chapter 1
Vernal, Utah
A re we close to Dinosaur Land?
seven-year-old Max asked, bouncing up and down in his seat. Josie’s been talking about dinosaurs for the entire ride, and I want to see one! Soon!
Grandpa looked back from the front passenger seat and smiled, Don’t worry Max, we’re almost to Vernal. It won’t be long until we check into the hotel. We’ll go see Dinosaur National Monument tomorrow. I hope you realize we will not see living dinosaurs, right?
He teased gently before he turned back to the front of the car and resumed reading on his tablet.
Josie, Max’s nine-year-old sister, crossed her arms, a book about dinosaurs rested in her lap, I didn’t talk that much about dinosaurs, and besides,
she unfolded her arms to point an accusing finger at Max, you said that dinosaurs were cool, and you wanted to hear more!
Max rolled his eyes, and pushed her hand away, Dinosaurs are cool! But I said that two hours ago, and you’re still talking about them.
He sighed heavily, "I wanted to hear about dinosaurs fighting, not which dinosaurs ate plants."
Grandma laughed, It’s alright that you have different interests. In fact, it’s great! That’s what makes you, you! Just remember to be patient when someone else likes something more than you do.
Grandpa nodded in agreement, She’s right kiddos, your Grandma and I both have things that we love doing, but we also have different interests. I’ve tried plenty of new activities because of her. Some of them I ended up liking and some of them, well,
he made a silly face, I don’t exactly like them, but I do the activities because your Grandma loves them. And I know she does the same for me. So give the plant eating dinosaurs a little more of a chance, Max, you might be surprised and end up loving them.
Max looked away from the window to stare at his Grandpa. He exaggerated a sigh before saying, Fine, I guess I can listen to Josie talk about erb-vores a little more.
Herb-i-vores, Max,
Josie said, it means they are dinosaurs that ate plants. I’m sure some of the dinosaur bones that we see tomorrow will be herbivores.
She picked her book back up and began talking about dinosaurs once more, while Max pulled out his Rubix Cube.
Look,
Max said, a short time later, dropping his Rubix Cube in his lap and pointing out the window, a dinosaur!
Whoa!
Josie said, looking over his shoulder, "It doesn’t look like any dinosaurs I’ve seen before, but it’s so big! Do you
