(Romans 10:9-10).
Acknowledgments
Journeys are rarely made alone, and God knows that I had a lot of help making this one. During my drug addiction and other struggles, and through the results and the impact that was made on my life, I thanked God for being the companion who was compelled to travel with me.
I also want to thank those who assisted me along the roadside by just praying for me and believing that I would find the righteous path.
Thank you, Jehovah God, for giving us Your Son, Jesus. I thank you, Jesus, for giving your life and teaching me how to love; because of that love, I am free from the bondage of addiction and seduction.
I especially wish to acknowledge my loving family members and understanding friends:
• My husband, Joshua Anding, who always stood by me.
• My dear parents: Elder Early Aley
and Mrs. Lettie
Elizabeth Simmons, who were my sure foundation.
• My first husband, Daniel McCarthy, the father of my two children, who helped me to keep peace between us so that our children and our families could continue to dwell together in unity as though we never separated.
My children and stepchildren: Daniel Lamar McCarthy and Tamela Marietta McCarthy-Redd, who always believed in me, encouraged me, and never gave up on me. You are always here, there for me. My stepchildren, Michelle, Nancy, Patricia, and Alfred (Freddie). My dear grandchildren, Alexandrea Danielle McCarthy-Redd and Kristen Jamie McCarthy-Redd—they were the one constant thing in my life.
My siblings who have supported me in all areas of my life. My sisters, Helen Inez McLean, Ida Belle Jones, and Edna Grace
Ferguson, who were there for me during my long ordeal. My brothers, Edward L. Simmons, Dr. Hank Simmons, Eddie L. Simmons, and special thanks to Dr. Joseph N. Simmons, who assisted me in writing chapter eight. Finally, I owe an immense debt of gratitude to my sister, Ida Simmons Jones, and in memory of my brother-in-law, Eddie Chuckie
Jones, with love and thanks for helping me during the final stage of my addiction and the marvelous times we shared.
• Special thanks to all who were part of my journey at Life Change Institute for Women:
Founders, Drs. I.V. and Bridget Hilliard, for obeying the call of God in their life by setting up a safe haven for women trapped in addiction. To the wonderful bond from Ministers Tonya, Debra Donna, Janice and Cole—who taught me a lot: How to communicate with God by listening to the voice of God, how to pray for courage, and how to stay focused. They also taught me about love and how to love God’s people by allowing His love to flow through me; about the choices we make; and the consequences that must be paid. There I learned about compassion and to never forget where I came from; and about gentleness and kindness and how to take authority over the enemy and fight the spiritual battles. I truly needed their assistance for my deliverance from all my life’s struggles. Thanks also to the women there who have kept touch.
Those who were a part of the process to make this book possible. A special thanks to everyone; I could not have done it without you:
• My daughter, Nancy Thomas, for typing and retyping and being committed to the project.
• To Connie Anderson, Words & Deeds, Inc., www.WordsandDeedsInc.com. Thank you for taking what many already had a hand in, and clarifying, organizing, and editing my thoughts into a book I am very proud of. Your attention to detail allows the sunlight to shine through the pages to reveal the message. I also appreciated your advice and guidance through the publishing process.
• John Morris provided significant editing help on this second edition. His expertise was much appreciated. Editide Editing and Graphic Design www.editide.usjohnjeff@editide.us
Introduction
You Are Invited into My Life. Welcome.
Rose Maria McCarthy
Anding’s Book Journey
Reaching this junction in my life has been a long journey. Please take a trip with me through the story of my life on the pages of my book. We will make a few stops along the way.
Section One tells where I met Jesus and what happened when I first met Him. You will witness the introductory stage, the development of the relationship, then the process of my falling in love with Jesus; the intimate fellowship, the courtship, and finally the making of my commitment to Jesus, and how He came to live with me.
Section Two views the impact of Jesus’ love. This great love affair changed my lifestyle. Some of the promises Jesus made are based upon our obeying Him. Experience what it is like to be a member of the Royal family. Jesus’ Father owns everything and has many names. Each name represents who He is and what He can do. Jesus told us if we needed anything, just go to the Father, use His name, and the Father would give it to us. Before we were born, the Father gave each of us a purpose. As you leave this section, you should be able to step into your purpose (vision) with full knowledge and understanding that will allow you to use your faith to live an abundant life.
As we approach Section Three, there is a sign that says: Go Back to Yesterday.
We have to go back to our awful past! Full of dread, we will have to mentally leave the new lifestyle and bright future and travel back through the events of my past, but we will continue traveling through time, searching and viewing the many stops. There are detours, high roads, and dark back alleys. Don’t forget to look out for the narrow path, the mud, the stops made at life’s back door, the pains of loneliness, walking alone, fearful times, and the many lies that have been told on you, the abusive marriages, broken friendships, lost love, single life, and living on the street. The parties that were going on: the dancing, drugs, champagne, pills, sexual encounters, and swinging on the chandeliers.
Suddenly, the party was over. I was now caught up in the worst political, sex, and drug scandal in the nation’s capital! The betrayal, the trial, the jail time, and finally, the moment of calm. We will learn how unforgiveness
took place in my heart, and then anger set in. Peace was forced to leave; that was the invitation that torment needed.
That is not a pretty picture, but we have to travel through the yesterdays to view where my life went wrong and how I ended up entangled on Satan’s web. What is all the excitement about? Take a look at what happened in our nation’s capital; that Proverbs 5 woman was performing (See Chapter 11). The strange seductress was a force to battle against. We must warn the men! (All men must read this chapter and avoid this stop in life.)
We have reached the third section. Why do people seem to remember our yesterdays? We often live them over and over. Most people never give us a chance to focus on our tomorrows!
We are back in the present. The Prince of Peace, the new love, Jesus, came and rescued us. Jesus cuts Satan’s all-powerful web off us and sets us free. Jesus put our sins into the sea of forgetfulness, never to be remembered. We can look forward to our brighter tomorrows. Remember those who were caught beneath the trapping of addiction and seduction have been given the opportunity to bow their head and pray and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, and He will free them.
Let us talk about the last section. Do you think your yesterdays are important? Do you want to learn how to stop living in the world of high heels, honey lips, perfumed sheets, and white powder–to learn how to fall in love with Jesus? The love of Jesus will teach you how to start living in the present. Take each one of your todays
and make them better; then it will become your yesterdays. You will learn about my yesterdays and the many lessons I share. My yesterdays are now used as reference for my tomorrows.
The Conclusion is my personal invitation for all to come and meet or just be reconnected to the wonderful man named Jesus, hang out with the Heavenly Guys, and learn how to fall in love with Jesus.
I didn’t tell it all. I left some secrets on the broadways of life, the tunnels of the past, and the sharp curves that you need to avoid. Read the book while alone and talk with Jesus about your journey.
Hopefully and prayerfully, this is the story that will cause you to view your life’s journey and make Jesus the center of your life. Living with Jesus, you will have lovely Garden of Eden experiences down here on earth, while waiting for the promise of the sweet by and by of eternal life.
Thanks for traveling with me on the journey! – Rose Maria McCarthy

Meeting Jesus
Chapter 1
Taking the First Step
The First Day
On a warm Saturday morning, September 16, 2006, we arrived in Houston, Texas. We were driving around the north side trying to locate 1014 Gears Loop Road. After getting directions, we quickly found the building, the kind that one could easily not notice. The two-story building with grayish exterior had a sign on the front right side that read: Life Change Institute for Women under the leadership of Drs. I.V. and Bridget Hilliard.
Life Change Institute for Women (LCIW) is a free, ninety-day, twenty-four-hour-a-day, drug-rehabilitation program for women ages eighteen and older. The facility houses women who have substance abuse problems. The program offers assured freedom from drug addiction. One major criterion for acceptance into the program is having respect for spiritual information given through the Word of God.
I had traveled long—from McComb, Mississippi, a small town in Pike County, to Chicago, and from Chicago to Washington, DC, then from that city to Greensboro, North Carolina, and now to the door of a drug rehabilitation center. I stood quietly for a moment before ringing the bell. Then a thought entered my mind. Will I make it this time?
Finally, I got the courage to ring the doorbell. A beautiful young woman, in her early to mid-thirties, greeted me with a smile. We shook hands as she introduced herself. Warmly, she said, Welcome to Life Change.
She happened to be the same minister I had made my acceptance and travel arrangements with over the phone.
My sister, Ida, and brother-in-law, Eddie, came in with me. They had driven me to the facility. The minister quickly told them to say their good-byes. Before they left, they hugged me, and then my sister turned to the minister and said, She is a preacher’s kid (PK). He brought her up in the church. She knows the Word.
After they left, I was experiencing all sorts of feelings. Making this work was my only option; this was my last chance.
My Last Chance
Crack cocaine had controlled my life for nearly twenty- five years. Even that day, I was recovering from a long night of using crack cocaine. However, my greatest intention was cleaning up my life and living productively again. This was a place for spiritual recovery, and I didn’t have to do it alone. Two young women came into the reception area to help me get my luggage up the staircase that led to the upper level. As we walked up the stairs, the young minister, in a stern and forceful voice, started to explain the program. She sounded almost like a drill sergeant. Later, I found out that she had been in the U.S. Army.
They took me to a dormitory-style sleeping facility that would become my home for the next ninety days. The minister gave me a student handbook and said, Tomorrow I will finish checking you in. Grace will be given tonight.
She could tell I had been up all night smoking crack and drinking beer and was extremely tired and strung out. Gratefully, I curled up on my bunk and quickly fell asleep.
Unknown to me, all the dorm rooms had intercoms. Suddenly, the sound of intense prayer, followed by singing, awakened me. The sounds were heavenly. Sitting up in the bed, I began to wonder what I had gotten myself into. Finally, I fell back to sleep. Later that day, the teaching of the minister awakened me again. It was powerful, and the Spirit of the Lord was truly in the place. It had been a long time since I had heard teaching like that, and I was unable to fall back to sleep.
Reaching for my student handbook, I began to read it and didn’t stop until page forty. Those first pages gave instructions on how the ninety days should be spent and what was expected from each student.
