About this ebook
This is the story of barbaric murders committed in the dead of night in the midst of a rural community in Joyce Country, on the border between counties Galway and Mayo in 1882. This is an in-depth and clear telling of that moment in history that is still alive in the collective community memory.
Seán Ó Cuirreáin
Seán Ó Cuirreáin is from the Donegal Gaeltacht but has lived in the Gaeltacht in Galway for many years. He is a graduate of NUI Galway; he spent more than twenty years working as a journalist and broadcaster but has a wide experience in many different areas of communication in English and Irish. In past years he has been active in public relations, radio presenting and producing, print journalism, television research and presenting, and lecturing in communications among other things. He has been Managing Editor, Programmes and Deputy Head of Raidió na Gaeltachta. He won the Oireachtas award for communication in 2002. The President appointed him Language Commissioner in 2004 on the advice of the Government and the Houses of the Oireachtas. He was re-appointed to that position in 2010 but resigned from office in Febraury, 2014 because he was dissatisfied with the lack of progress being made in the promotion of language rights in the Irish-language community and in the Gaeltacht. His decision to retire from office inpsired thousands of people to take part in language rights demonstrations. The President of Ireland organised a tribute in Áras an Uachtaráin in March 2014 in commemoration of his work for the language. He received the Pearse Award in 2014. His first book, Éagóir, was published by Cois Life in 2016.
