About this ebook

Some feel that beings with a mystical force are gifted, while others feel these powers are unnatural. Some see these beings as abominations to be feared and hated. Unfortunately, when you fear and hate others, all you do is give them reasons to fear and hate you . . .

While out on a date, Tokijin and Valerie Rose are
ambushed by a demon from Tokijin's past: Jimomaru,
an old friend turned enemy, one who hates humans as
much as the Order of the Cross hates his kind, and he's
determined to show Tokijin why humans and demons
can never live in peace. Meanwhile, Mystic, Noonien and
Shi-ria run into a sorceress named Aanjay, Noonien's ex-fiance, who also harbours a deep grudge against humanity. Together, Aanjay and Jimomaru mean to show Tokijin why humans are the ones that should be hated and destroyed, by whatever means necessary.

Now, in order to save Tokijin, Sister Rose must team up with Mystic, Noonien and Shi-ria before it's too late, before Aanjay and Jimomaru escalate the anger, hatred, fear and violence, and before Valerie looses Tokijin forever . . .

Tokijin and Valerie Rose were taking a leisurely stroll through the park. Rose had her arms wrapped tightly around Tokijin’s right arm, her head leaning on his shoulder. It was moments like these that she enjoyed the most. It seemed as though she and Tokijin hardly ever got to spend any time together. Being a nun with the Order of the Cross meant she was supposed to devote her life to God and the service of the Church. Therefore, having a secret boyfriend wouldn’t earn her any approval from Mother Superior, the Order, or the Catholic Church. And the fact that her boyfriend was a demon, the very servant of the devil that she was supposed to destroy, only made matters worse. Of course, while Tokijin was a demon, he was certainly not a servant of the devil. Ironically, he might even be a better Christian than Rose ever was. As a result, it was a rare treat when the two of them could actually go on a date and have the chance to forget about the Church, the Order, angels, and demons. Usually, Rose’s duties left her with very little time for any sort of social life. The last time she and Tokijin had a date, it was interrupted by the arrival of Mystic, Noonien, and Shi-ria. They came looking for them, insisting that some woman named Zolida told them to meet, though neither Tokijin nor Rose knew why. Therefore, Rose was determined to make the most of this date. For tonight, she and Tokijin weren’t nun and demon, but simply boyfriend and girlfriend.

Isn’t the moon lovely tonight? she asked, gazing up into the night sky as she clung to Tokijin.

    Tokijin didn’t answer.

Tokijin? Is something wrong? she raised her hand to his cheek and gently turned his head so that his yellow eyes were looking directly into her blue ones.

I’m sorry, sweetie, Tokijin said, gently shaking his head, then turning his attention back to Rose, I guess I was lost in thought.

What were you thinking about? she asked.

    Shi-ria, Tokijin confessed.

Rose gave him a look of mocking disapproval. We’re on a date, and you’re thinking about another woman? she teased. She knew, of course, that Tokijin was faithful, more faithful than she’d been, and he had never even considered fooling around with someone else behind her back. Lucky for you, I’m not the jealous type. Both she and Tokijin laughed.

What I mean, Tokijin continued, is that Shi-ria said she’s from a planet called Thalia and that she was brought here by someone named Zolida to meet with us.

Why? Rose wondered out loud. Who is this Zolida? I don’t ever recall meeting her. Why would she want Shi-ria, Mystic, and Noonien to meet with us?

That’s what I’ve been thinking about, Tokijin responded, I wonder if it has something to do with that prophecy. Remember the one I told you about?

Rose recalled Tokijin telling her about the prophecy on more than one occasion. The words were etched into her brain:

The descendant of the darkness will cause the shadows to rise, and darkness will envelop the world. Then the one who is not of this world will seek out the true light within the darkness, and the shadows will open the gates to the netherworld. The true light will shine, removing all shadows from the world while the earth seals the shadows within the netherworld for all eternity.

She remembered Tokijin telling her that his parents had been killed by a deranged cult when he was just a boy. This cult worshipped something called the Kage Dai Yokai, meaning the Great Shadow Spectre. It was a very powerful demon that, according to legend, would one day return to Earth and destroy humanity. Rose couldn’t help but wonder if this was the reason she met and fell in love with Tokijin. Was this her destiny? To help Tokijin either prevent or destroy this shadow demon if it returned?

The prophecy said ‘the one who is not of this world.’ Since Shi-ria is technically from another planet, could she be ‘the one’ the prophecy was referring to? Tokijin asked.

Rose fumbled for an answer, but all she could do was shrug her shoulders. She didn’t like to think about prophecies or predicting the future. She had been taught that such things were dark magic—powers from the devil. Ironically, the Bible itself was full of such things. She couldn’t help but notice the apparent hypocrisy in dismissing such abilities as evil when her religious texts contained similar things. Still, she knew such things were wrong, though only because the Church said so. Her religious teachings told her that was reason enough, yet her heart and mind kept insisting otherwise. She looked up at Tokijin. She wanted to say something, but words failed her. While she was tempted to tell him to forget about such things, remind him that they were on a romantic date and that he shouldn’t spoil it, she couldn’t bring herself to tell him this. Maybe because it was all tied to the Cult of the Shadows that killed his parents. She knew he was still haunted by that and didn’t want to make it seem like she was dismissive of this childhood tragedy. And while her teachings from the Order told her that his parents were demons and therefore got what they deserved, her heart and mind told her something different. Tokijin’s parents died long before she met him, so she only knew them through what Tokijin told her. From what he told her, they seemed to be good, honest, loving people.
