About this ebook

Thomas Addison feared becoming a pet of the aliens who had taken over Earth. While hiding out with his mother, he found an injured alien and couldn't leave him to die. Taking him home with him was one of the scariest things he had ever done, but leaving someone, even an alien, to die in the dirt wasn't something he felt he could do.

Kalon had been set on by his own kind. Betrayed and alone, the last thing he expected was to be saved by a human male, especially when the only reason he was on the planet was to try and undo some of the damage his people had done. Meeting Tom and his mother brought home the importance of what he was trying to do, but the meeting also brought with it other complications. Mating complications.

Can these two stop the pet trade and rescue the humans that have gone missing? Will those who want to keep their illegal pets and other gains prevent them from enjoying their happy ever after?

    About the Author

    Prologue

There had been a time, before the aliens arrived, that humans thought they were alone in the universe. They were wrong.

The arrival of the Danzaith, the aliens who suddenly came in with their warships; the ones that couldn’t be stopped, be shot down, and who hovered over the major cities of the world either fascinated people or scared the crap out of them.

When they finally stepped foot onto the planet we called Earth, they took over, and it was so easy for them to do it. We couldn’t fight them, they had superior weapons, and knew how to use them.

They were also a large species. The average warrior stood at no less than six and a half feet tall and they were pure muscle. Their skin was a pale brown with green highlights in color, and their eyes were usually some form of a green color, ranging from light to dark. They were also said to have vertical slits for the irises, almost reptilian, although that wasn’t all the time. They typically didn’t have a lot of hair on their heads, but it was mostly some type of hardened, or rough skin. They usually had a lot of scars on their bodies, which was something they seemed proud of. The more scars they had, the greater respect they gave that person.

Trying to fight them proved impossible. They carried personal shields, that left them impervious to our ballistic weapons. When someone tried to fire a taser at them, the shield absorbed the electricity, and then it sent out a small discharge that fried the batteries in the taser.

It was over in a matter of weeks. They came, and when most people realized that they couldn’t win against them, the humans gave up the fight.

Once the governments of the world caved in to the Danzaith, that’s when life became a living hell for some of the male population. The aliens were after pets. It didn’t matter what the human male’s preference was, if a Danzaith warrior took interest in them, they became property, the plaything of these monsters.

And god help you if tried to escape or fight them off. Some who did try were left to stand outside, no matter the weather, nude and on display. So many died from exposure to the elements, and they were a gruesome reminder that you couldn’t win, not against them. For some, the way they died was due to their collar. The collar would have a charge in it, that would send out an electrical pulse that would kill the pet. The worst collars were the ones that had a small explosive in them. Seeing a human with their head blown off the body was traumatizing and demoralizing.

And just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, they could. There were still many countries that had deep religious beliefs against a man lying with another man. Supporters tried to hide the men, but the Danzaith always found them. This led to mass suicides. It was believed that many cultures were even killing any male infants being born, just to keep them away from the Danzaith.

For most, apathy set in. People prayed to their respective gods desperate for someone to rescue them, anyone. But for most of the population, they waited, because for now, no prayers were being answered.

    Chapter One

Thomas Addison had never been so scared in his life. He knew that when the alien ships started hovering over the major cities, something was going to happen, something bad. And it did.

The ships were hovering for a reason. The aliens were running out of pets and were on an active hunt for new ones.  The mighty humans who thought that they were so great, the dominant species, were now the playthings of aliens.

Tom had been hiding in the mountains ever since the first ships were seen over Washington D.C. He knew how to survive in the wilderness and made sure that he took his mother with him. His dad had already passed away, so he was working hard to make sure that she would be safe. He didn’t know what they would do with an older woman, and he refused to let her find out. So far, Tom and his mom had been hiding in the mountains for almost two years.

When he first realized that the aliens were here to stay, Tom packed what he could, also getting his mom pack anything that she thought she would need. They loaded up their cars and drove up to their cabin in the mountains. Knowing that they wouldn’t have electricity, or even a generator since Tom didn’t know if the power signature could be traced, they knew that they were going to be learning how to function without it. They also pulled the batteries from their vehicles once they arrived at the cabin, not wanting to worry if even they could be traced. They kept the batteries in the house, hopefully keeping them from the worst of the damage the winter months could bring.  Tom didn’t know if they were going to need to use their vehicle, in case they needed to run. Fear was a great motivator, but self-preservation was even greater. Tom built a type of barn for the cars, something to keep the
