When the tide of the war turned against them in 1944, their wrecked Panzers were photographed by victorious Allies. The practice created an extraordinary record of the thousands of tank wrecks that littered the battlefields across the Western Front.

ANTHONY TUCKER-JONES spent nearly twenty years in the British Intelligence Community before establishing himself as a defence writer and military historian. He has written extensively on aspects of Second World War warfare, including Hitler’s Great Panzer Heist and Stalin’s Revenge: Operation Bagration.

Mr. Tucker-Jones must be the very worst person to ask to caption tank photos. It quickly becomes apparent—even to those with a casual interest in WW2 vehicles—that he is not very knowledgeable about vehicle variants.
