A War OF Faith - H S Sharma
Prolouge
In the lands of Liaqcal near the boundary of Lands of Qy’tharns and near the river that flows from Liaqcal to Lands of Qy’tharns, a man with his son was walking. He was a poor man, and it looks like he is there to collect woods for fire. His son is nearly sixteen or seventeen years old and he is a fine axe man. The father is old and he is nearly bald, his eyes had wrinkles beneath them and his forehead is full of wrinkle lines, whereas talking about the son; he was moderately tall and young man. He is nor too thick neither too thin, his body though do not indicate muscles but fat. This shows that he is new in business.
They were walking and they are not alone, they are accompanied by another old man Frost; he is a friend of Vivian- the father of seventeen years old boy- Shalender. These lads were deep in the woods without knowledge of the danger of their actions. They were hoping for a fallen tree that will make their stars shine. But instead of finding it, what they found was horrible.
While walking along with his son Shalender and his friend Frost, Vivian heard something mysterious. It is like whining sound of someone in deep pain. They immediately started walking towards the place with longer steps and they were all so scared that they held each other’s hands.
After a few moments of walking, behind a tree, they found some bodies. These bodies seem whiter or to say these bodies were pale than usual and the uniforms and weapons suggest that they must be soldiers or guards who were sent there. It freaked them out and they started running blindly in any direction. They lost their sense and they were just running like animals blindly in the woods for their life.
They eventually got split away from each other and they were alone, without knowledge of their position in the woods.
And according to the myths, the forest is forbidden to enter and is a cursed place for sure. Vivian heard a scream that freezes him right away; it was his son’s scream. Is he in some kind of danger? Why he screamed so loud that miles away his father heard it? Where is Frost and what happened to him? These questions hedged his mind and he started shouting out loud and yelling-‘Son, are you alright? Where are you, my boy? Shalender… answer me son, where are you?’ but unfortunately no one replied him back. He also tried to shout his friend’s name but there was no clue of him too. And the night took over the light and in darkness the forest would be the last place to be lost.
And something in the dark attacked him, and his back was injured. It is like something or some animal scratched his back with claws or something like it. Then, being wise he thought it would be good if he takes a shelter near a tree or something, that thing however is maybe gone and it did not attacked him again. He saw a cave and with precautions he entered in the cave. It was empty so in the very end of the cave, he fired some woods and sticks for light and warmth and slept there. He was tired of running and in pain with the injury in his back so it did not even took more than a minute to fell asleep.
CHAPTER 1
The lost men
In a cabin of an old castle, amidst of cold breezes and darkness, where the sunlight never enters. A man, tall and ugly, standing near the east-facing window and staring the sky. With a thousand of thoughts inside him, he asked-‘did they come?’ and with his voice it is easy to predict that he is worried and the reply came from a guard who was standing just behind him-‘I am feared, no. They did not came; my lord.’ The man, ugly and tall standing near the window is the warden of eastern province of Quincel; and he is deeply worried about the soldiers that were sent to check the conditions in the forbidden forest near the gate of bond
. But, with a wonder they did not returned back home even after three months. The journey was long, but can be completed in a month with horses; going there and returning back. It is a topic to worry also because every man knows the forbidden forest is a place of cursed and dark things. And if the news of disappearance of fifteen soldiers will spread in the realm; there surely will be chaos. With no wasting of time, the warden; whose name is ‘Renvill Marvoff’ called his counselors and council members to discuss this.
In a hall no bigger than that cabin, with a table in the middle and around seven-eight chairs; they sat in there. The members present there were warden Renvill, his minister of affairs Vandrad Manjiq, his counselor Hans Operena and a maester of his with immense knowledge maester Jounce Younw. These four of them were considered as the greatest minds in the province and the discussion was started as they entered the hall. The castle was not huge but it is huge enough to be called as a castle. The blackstoned castle has a name also-‘black-paradox’ it is. The people here wears woolen clothes as the temperature here is not favorable with warmth.
Renvill: ‘gentlemen, to-day I called upon this meeting in order of take your opinion on a very sensitive topic.’
Maester Jounce: ‘what is this that created fear in your eyes, my lord?’
Renvill: ‘I, with great disappointment, have to tell you that the troop of fifteen soldiers we sent to check the mysterious happenings near the forbidden forest did not return. And we should consider this matter as a very serious concern.
Hans: ‘oh goodness! No ravens you received my lord?’
Renvill: ‘none, so far.’
Maester Jounce: ‘we should inform the king as soon as we can. Have you sent the news through a raven to him?’
Renvill: ‘no, but I was also thinking about the same thing. What you think about it Vandrad?’
Vandrad: ‘my lord, I begin to agree with maester Jounce. We should surely inform the king; in the meanwhile time we should send another troop of some soldiers to check on them.’
Hans: ‘who, on goodness sake, will agree after knowing that some disappeared in the track they have to cover. I think we should just inform the king and await his orders, my lord.’
Renvill: ‘I agree with you, Hans. Maester please write the raven for me and bring it to me to seal it with my seal. And remember I need it on my table as fast as you can.’
Maester Jounce: ‘as you speak, my lord.’
And then the Maester and Hans left the room. Vandrad stood and as he started turning towards the door, the warden stops him and said-‘do you really think it would be wise to send another troop to the forbidden forest?’ and with a diplomatic manner he replied-‘I certainly do, my lord.’ And then Renvill smiled a little and said-‘you are brave, as I know you my friend. I will surely send another troop to the dark forest and this will be classified information only between a few of us. Never tell this to Hans to Maester or to anyone else.’ And Vandrad smiled as he knows the warden is going to do this for sure and he replied with a satisfying nod. Then he left the room and few minutes later an old man entered the room again, with shivering hands and snow white hair around cheeks and nearly bald head; he is Maester Jounce. He was holding a script in his hands; this was the message they were going to send through the raven to the king of Quincel.
Maester Jounce: ‘my lord, this is what you asked for me to do.’
Renvill: ‘read it to me, maester. I want to hear it and confirm if the message I want to deliver is in it or not.’
Maester Jounce: ‘here it reads, my lord. My king, I, with a heavy heart, have to tell you that my troops that I sent three months ago to check the sealed ‘gate of bond’ never returned and we lost their tracks. They were also sent to check upon some unsolved mysterious happenings occurring near the dark forest these days. I am awaited in order to receive your reaction and further instructions in this matter, till then I; for the sake of peace in my province, shall not disclose this news to anyone but few members I trust. And in the end there is your name with the post ‘warden’ written there. Anything you would like to change or to add, my lord?
Renvill: ‘no, place it on the table so I can seal It.’ And then with the seal of his name he sealed it and with further instructions he told the guard, who was unknown from the matter into the script, to send it to the king. And he did as the warden told him to, he prepared a raven and placed the script in his leg and the raven flew away in the deep blue sky. The words were sent but the problem is still there, and as the warden decided, five men were called upon to show great bravery. Purohin, his younger brother Prajahin thuns and a young foolish lad; Mandungus Hgorn with Fesx Mander and an archer Vlador Lindor were selected to accomplish the mission, check on the gate of bond and to seek the truth behind the bad and unexplained happenings near the dark forest. They were instructed to go as swiftly as they can and return back as soon as they can.
Purohin and Prajahin are short men with a great strength and blonde hair, they both are young and I would hardly say they were in mid-twenties in their age. Mandungus is a tall and beast-like man with a huge beard on his face of black hair; he is maybe forty year old. His face is uneven and he also has scars around his face and in his chest. Whereas Fesx is a loyal lad of around forties with a clean-faced decent man and in the other hand there is Vlador, a man of thirties and a very ugly person with muddy clothes and a long, unwashed hair. The troop was not the perfect one, but the king believed that they would return to him and this all will be over soon. Although, they never met and they never even have seen each other in their entire life, but from now they have to watch each other’s back and protect themselves also. This might sound easy but the differences
