About this ebook
A veteran of war...
Dr. Robert Forrester spends most of his time as an on-call physician while moonlighting as a free healthcare provider to the lower classes of Manchester. And while he's plagued by memories of the Crimean War, he's managed to avoid letting them affect his work. Until unexpected events trigger increasingly debilitating episodes of flashbacks, forcing him to confront emotions long-buried or face being consumed by them.
A lost widow...
Johanna Milton doesn't know what she wants. With no husband or children, she's denied the one accepted role a woman can have in Victorian society. When a chance meeting brings Dr. Forrester into her path, she wonders if this is her chance for a different kind of life. After offering to help with patients, sparks fly as the two must learn to get along and perhaps overcome their personal demons.
All while avoiding the unthinkable: falling in love.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In the back of my mind as I was reading I was kind of predicting it would end up being 4 stars, but I really enjoyed how things came together in the end, so I'm actually going to round up from a 4.5! Going in, this already had several elements that I typically enjoy, medical, soldiers, widows, gruff heroes with a tender little heart inside. =D So when I was offered a copy for my honest review, I was willing to gamble my time, hoping it would at least be decent. And I was really pleasantly surprised! The characters have a nice mix of opposite traits that create tension but ultimately complement each other, and some strong underlying similarities. And the story is very relationship focused (no murder mystery or anything) where we really see the characters grow and the relationship progress. (Plus, it had some nice steam =) ). I liked both main characters more as the story went along, and I was fond of the two primary supporting characters as well, (I would read a HR about the hotel owner for sure). I've read a few terrible books recently, so this was a very encouraging pickmeup.
