About this ebook

This is the seventh book created by the founder of North Idaho wildlife rehabilitation facility American Heritage Wildlife Foundation. The first five were written for the children and young readers with the goal of sparking their love for wild animals. One even allows the reader to chose their fate. One Story is a collection of anecdotes about the wild animal patients along with poems and wild animal general information.
This story is nothing like those. These 20+ very short - flash fiction style stories are like an exceptional cup of coffee - bold, dark, at times warm as well as bitter. They portray images your mind congers up only to be confronted with the reality that these images are from an entirely different perspective.

    IMAGINE

    a series of short fiction stories written from an unexpected point of view.

    This is the seventh storybook created by Mrs. McGee, in an effort to provide another means of sustainable revenue for American Heritage Wildlife Foundation. AHWF is the nonprofit located in North Idaho providing rehabilitative care of the injured and orphaned native wild animals and is solely supported with community support. Annually more than 100 individual animals are helped, more than 300 telephone calls are answered, more than 4000 volunteer hours are given – there are no paid staff members. Previous to 2020, between two and three dozen outreach events and activities were held annually. The Nature Walk – guided pathway was slated to open but perhaps the spring of 2021 will allow this. Life  seems to me to consist of three parts:

    the absorbing and usually enjoyable present which rushes on from minute to minute with fatal speed;

    the future dim and uncertain for which one can make any number of interesting plans, the wilder and more improbable the better since - as nothing will turn out as you expect it to do - you might as well have fun of planning anyway;

    and thirdly, the past, the memories and realities that are the bedrock of one’s present life; brought back to you suddenly by a scent, the shape of a hill, an old song - some triviality that makes one suddenly say I remember… with a peculiar and quite unexplainable pleasure. - Agatha Christie

    We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. ― Winston Churchhill

    In nature, you leave yourself behind. You are nobody in the woods. When faced with a particularly difficult problem, I find it’s always healthier to just get out of the house and go for a walk rather than trying to force the answer. For in the repetition of walking you empty yourself out, free yourself of opinion and expectation and embody once again humanity’s innate character.  In this state of emptiness, your mind begins to clear – and then the gods descend to fill the void. Freedom of movement stimulates the mind, bringing forth divine wisdom. A free body is a free mind …. Excerpt from Harry Stead article on long walks in nature.

    Nature conservation therefore not only ensures our material basis of life but also constitutes an investment in the wellbeing of us all – Joel Methorst (doctoral researcher of biodiversity and climate research center.)

    Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled with extreme care and genius. – E.O.

    Wilson

    We often kill the things      we love it is irrelevant if we mean to and then move on leaving no trail this way it's easier to forget this is not our world, yet we take such small things for granted,      soon enough there will be no mother nature.

    We will      all mourn in her wake and dream of the      happier times but we won't think of the things we did which made her starve for the things she had always had.

    –  by young poet Ryan Law (what to fear, not who to self published book of poetry)

    Author Nevada Barr hypothesized in one of her books that man gave the wolf all the dark bits of his character then vilified the animal for those traits. Think about it …. When a human acts with abhorrent behaviors, what descriptive words come to mind?
