About this ebook

The day Lucy Winters died came as a shock to everyone who knew her.

I assumed a lot of friends and family came for her funeral that gloomy, rainy day. For both the wake and funeral, I remained cooped up in my room. I just couldn't bring myself to go.

The last time we saw each other, I told her I was sorry, and that I couldn't be with her. I wish I hadn't said that, and then maybe she would still be alive. And right now, I'd give anything to get that feeling once more.

That art of feeling.

Is your heart still as cold as before or has it warmed up?

That was the last message she sent to me. Hurt and angry as I was, I still texted back.

With you, everything is warm.

And I wonder if she ever saw that message.

This is the story of me and Lucy Winters and how it ended.

    Summary

The day Lucy Winters died came as a shock to everyone who knew her.

I assumed a lot of friends and family came for her funeral that gloomy, rainy day. For both the wake and funeral, I remained cooped up in my room. I just couldn’t bring myself to go.

The last time we saw each other, I told her I was sorry, and that I couldn’t be with her. I wish I hadn’t said that, and then maybe she would still be alive. And right now, I’d give anything to get that feeling once more.

CHAPTER ONE: FIRST OPINIONS DON’T MATTER.

The story of Lucy and I started a year ago.

I was writing down a few lyrics for the new song our band was going to sing in a few days when I heard a couple arguing.

I wasn’t necessarily eavesdropping, and it wasn’t my fault they were not making an effort to be quiet; they practically caught the whole school’s attention. I took a swing of the cola in front of me and watched the fickle between the back and forth couple. It looked like another breakup for them.

I wasn’t sure what the reason was, I mean last time they broke up because of an argument over who ate the most and who didn’t, but this time it looked damn serious. Lucy was yelling at him and her eyes were all red and puffy.

I didn’t know why, but a frown of disapproval settled on my features. I didn’t care as to what they were fighting about, but making a girl cry wasn’t a good thing. If anyone should be crying, it should be the idiot she bothered to waste her precious time with.

I took another drink and tried to zone both of them out. I needed to focus on my song and not on the arguing couple. But my curiosity got the best of me, and I once again watched them bicker.

A few minutes later, another girl approached them and began yelling profanities at the guy. She pulled Lucy to her side and hugged her. Giving up, the guy turned and left.

Glad that was over. I could finally concentrate-

    ‘’Hey, Keith!’’

    Or not.

I looked up to see my best friend, James, running towards me. He was sweating like he had just stopped a marathon. Collapsing on the bench, I was seated on, he reached for a bottle of cola in the cooler and took a huge gulp.

‘’Ah, man that’s good.’’ He breathed. ‘’Did you see those two?’’

‘’What happened?’’ I asked, trying not to sound too concerned or as though I had been listening.

‘’That damn Kevin cheated on her again,’’ James muttered, not bothering to hide his contempt for the guy. Although James and Lucy only spoke once, James admired her. He sincerely looked worried for her. ‘’She’s upset about it.’’

Of course, she would be. Kevin was never any good for Lucy. What possible reason could he have to betray the girl’s trust like that? Somehow, I had the sudden urge to run over to him and punch the living daylights out of that Kevin guy.

But then again, it wasn’t my business.

James reached for the paper beside me and picked it up.

‘’Is this the new lyrics? They look good.’’ He commented.

Of course, they would. I was the one writing them.

‘’This line seems a bit too harsh though. Do we have to add this?’’

‘’Scared of a little criticism?’’ I asked him to start a needless argument. And as usual, he took the bait.

‘’Who the hell are you calling scared? I just feel since I will be the scapegoat singing, I don’t need to let out harsh words.’’

KMS. That was the name of our boy band. We had our fair share of popularity in school, but we hoped to make it into stardom someday. James had been the one to suggest we create a band, and I agreed because it looked badass and shit. He became the singer, I the guitarist and our third member Lewis was the band drummer.

Valencia School of art, the world’s famous campus known for its talent for producing famous stars and for its rigorous training it offered to different departments. The kids here breathed in art and for a guy like me who was into music; there was no other place I could be.

At least that’s what I told myself. My parents were against the idea of me majoring in an all art school. They wanted me to follow in the footsteps of my dear brother Cain who was a well-known businessman.

I begged to differ. If anything Cain was a hypocrite and a coward. I was not bitter against my brother.

At least that’s what I told myself.

‘’There she goes,’’ James said suddenly, an adoring tone in his voice.

I rolled my eyes as Lucy and the other girl passed in front of us and walked through the push indoors that led to the school’s main building.

Lucy was someone everyone in school had heard of. She was the school’s best actress, and her work ethic was famous, second to the witchy spell she cast on boys in this school, especially the idiot beside me. It was like she enveloped the school with some kind of eclipse that made boys flock around her. Well, except me.

Our hate for each other was well known. She didn’t have much power over me. She was a beauty, I’d give her that; long blonde hair, blue eyes, pink lips and that face that would make you drool (note to self, I heard those in the men’s locker room). We only spoke once and that was the day she won an award for the best student in school, second to me. Since then, she hadn’t given any sign that she wanted to speak to me, and neither did I. Probably thought of herself too high to trouble herself with the likes of a guy like me.

The thought made me want to break something. I resented her for that.

‘’Dude, you have to let go of the hate you have on her. It’s been a year since then.’’ James elbowed me in the side. ‘’Lucy isn’t the kind of person you hate.’’

I didn’t care. Not about her or James or the unfair resentment I had on her. I had my own shit to worry about, and with that, I stood up from the bench, snatched the paper from James’ hands, and made my way to my dorm room.

Anything to get far away from this delusion.

But in reality, I was the delusional and pained one.

Leave it to me to act like the whole world was against me.

Besides, it was what I did best.

    CHAPTER TWO: AN UNLIKELY HERO.

The sound of my phone ringing woke me up the next morning. I sighed, already knowing who would call this early. Picking it up, I glared at the screen hoping somehow it would reach him.

‘’What do you want?’’ I growled.

‘’You’re a bit grumpy this morning.’’

I was not a morning person and he knew that, second to the fact that I told him to never call me again.

‘’What do you want?’’ I asked again.

‘’Mom said to check up on you. She said she’d been calling and you never pick.’’

‘’Well, you can tell her I’m doing just great.’’

He sighed. He was annoyed; I could hear it in his voice. He was always like that whenever he called me. Probably found it troublesome to always be the one to check up on his messed up brother.

‘’Could you be a little kind? Mom is worried sick, you know. Ever since you stopped taking your medic-‘’

‘’I have class.’’ I interrupted him. I knew where he was going to and I was not the least interested.

‘’You and I both know you don’t do classes, especially this early in the morning.’’ He laughed a little and against my will,
