About this ebook

What if your loudest roar was found in your deepest wound? What if the test and trials that you have faced in this life were actually taking you somewhere or building you into something great? What if pain could actually lead to purpose? In Wounded Lions, Brian takes both men and women into the jungle of life to help them restore the roar for their dreams and the things of God. Wounded Lions is a call to those who have been hurt, wounded and thrown away by life. It is a reminder that all God's sons and daughters are Lion Kings and Queens. Brian challenges his readers to get up and roar again. It is possible to find value in our victories and defeats. There is a win even in your wounds. Now rise and roar! Lead like a lion! My question to you is: will you spend the rest of your life licking your wounds or will you rise and live through your wounds? There is a difference. Those who lick their wounds are stuck. They spend much of their time licking and thinking. The story they tell themselves and others is a sad one. It is a story of a defenseless animal who was attacked for no reason. The problem with those who lick their wounds is that they have yet to figure out that the only thing that is keeping their wound open and infested is the saliva from their own tongue. With every lick, they continue to infect that which was inflicted upon them. In other words with every word that rolls from their tongue, they infect their own lives. They are doing more damage to themselves than the person or situation that wounded them. The bible says, in Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

    CHAPTER  1

The Danger of a Wounded Lion

The Danger of a Wounded Lion

In all her beauty this golden lioness queen makes her way through the overgrown, tall blades of dry brown grass. With every step each individual blade of grass, not only breaks from her muscular frame but it almost seems as if they bow in honor of the Queen and the King of the jungle. Following closely behind her is the father of her soon to be cubs. The majestic confident walk of these two ferocious, beautiful creatures is absolutely breathtaking and just enough to cause every other hiding animal in the jungle to flee for their lives in fear that the lions just might turn their attention and talents on them.

These two dominant beasts have made their way to a water hole after a long day’s journey. As they make their way through the tall blades of grass to an opening of soft wet muddy ground that leads to water, they pause. The full weight of such a king and queen causes the soft ground beneath them to begin to give way. Their large paws begin to sink into the cool, wet ground. The next step they would take would surely leave footprints that only a lion could leave. Footprints that say, Lions were here.

As they lowered their heads to drink from the crocodile-infested watering hole the light from the hot burning sun glistened off of what seemed to be large wounds inflicted upon both of them. Every time they bowed their heads to lap up water, red crimson blood poured down their backs. The tall blades of brown grass have moved to the background of the scene and now the bright light of the day has clearly revealed their large gaping wounds. Were the wounds from a battle to the death in the wild, a human predator who was hunting for lions or crocodiles near a watering hole? While how the wounds were inflicted, and who inflicted them were important questions, the most important question was how would they survive the wounds that had been inflicted? A wounded lion by no means loses its majesty. The wins and the losses all somehow add to the glory and splendor of the lion. Whether male or female the lion and lioness were born for one reason, that is to be the king and queen of the jungle. Royalty with a roar is a better way of saying it. Every lion and lioness needs to know just how much time and effort life will spend plotting and trying to silence or steal its roar through massive wounds.

The two lions drink to restore their strength for the long journey ahead of them. And just when it seemed as if they had found a place of peace. A sound comes from the tall brown blades of grass behind them. It is a host of human hunters who have found their prize prey. Tired of running from that which is actually weaker than them, the two lions look at each other and in full agreement, decided they were done running from that which has hurt them. Instead they turn towards it. They dig their large paws and nails into the wet ground. Their long lion teeth now snarling and as their heart rate rises the blood rushes from their wounds even more. Pools of blood form around their feet as they tightly grip into the earth. The grass slowly moves again as their foolish gun-toting predators approach the most dangerous thing on the face of the earth. That is a wounded lion.

In unison, the lion and the lioness let out a roar that could be heard for miles away. This is a reminder to the rest of the jungle, wounded or not, I am lion hear me roar! They both, at full speed, rush toward the brush with one mindset, We are king and queen of the jungle. Their large bodies blocked out the sun as they leaped into the air. Guns go off and more wounds are inflicted. But the lions are done running. The hunters had discovered what they already should have known, that is, sometimes your greatest roar comes from your deepest wounds. All the creatures of the jungle waited to see who would survive the battle. There was a long pause of silence. Then suddenly the tall brown grass begins to bow in honor of the lion and the lioness as they emerged from the battlefield. They were more wounded than they were before and yet more victorious than they would ever be. The lions then let out a roar that the world could hear. It’s a  roar that found its roots in their wounds.

Licking Your Wounds or Living Through Them

It is my intention to put you in lions skins for the next eleven chapters. Whether you are a lion or a lioness, it is my objective to cause you to eat, sleep, think, fight and roar through your wounds like a lion. If you are anything like me you read the story above of the two wounded lions and you quickly related to what you were reading. Why? You too have been wounded in life. You also know what it feels like when life and your dreams seem to try to hunt you down and inflict unwanted wounds upon you. The kind of wounds that gush with blood and no band-aid or wraps can fix. These wounds are so deep that only God and time can heal them. And while they are healing, your job, wife, husband, kids, and
