    About the Author

    Disclaimer

Yes, I am a doctor. But you cannot be my patient because I cannot examine you or even talk to you. In fact, in some states I’m not even allowed to help you because of the restrictions on my scope of practice in that state! An examination and consultation are necessary to determine a diagnosis, and a diagnosis is necessary for a treatment plan. What I can do, though, is share my own experiences and research with you and help guide you, as an informed layperson, through a disease or group of diseases we may share. But I am a doctor, so the things I share with you may help you significantly, or at least I hope so. That is my passion—to help you.

For years I studied and researched all the information I could possibly find in order to understand what was happening to my body. It was not until I had the big picture and faced the enormity of what I’d pieced together that I realized I must share it. You will notice that there is no reference section in the back of this book. Because my research began as a personal discovery, I failed to keep records or the piles and piles of paper documents that cluttered every room of my house! Instead I’ve furnished you with a literature review, which contains some excellent books that have well-documented research and references that prove the scientific and health-related contents of this book. The important difference, however, is that I’ve pulled it all together: the real cause, the science, the healthcare, and the step-by-step information about what to do about it.

Please note that I am not anti-medical or anti-big pharma. The point of this book is to help you, not to make a social or political point by bashing the big boys. I am a doctor of chiropractic, a DC, a professional who recognizes the value in all aspects of responsible health care and management. I fervently believe we should all be working together for the benefit of the patient.

Anything I write here has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. I’m not trying to sell you any products. I’m just sharing my experience and years of personal research with you in hopes that you can benefit from it. Best of luck.

    This book is

dedicated to the millions of people, all over the world, who are suffering needlessly because of a void, a glitch, if you will, a gaping hole in knowledge and acceptance of our modern medical community and the economic forces to resist seeing what science has known as fact for about a hundred years.

On the more personal side, this book is dedicated to my husband, Robert, for his never-ending belief in and tolerance of … me. Thanks, babe. I couldn’t have gotten through this without your loyalty and care.

And I cannot forget my son, Richard, who, like his father, has been very protective of me. You are growing into such a fine man. Thank you.

    PART I

    Do You Have This Disease?

    PART I

    Chapter 1

Introduction: How It All Began … with Me

My brother had to have chickens. He just had to have chickens! We lived outside of town, only a short walk from the A&P. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the A&P, I believe it was the first coast-to-coast market, before they were super, and it stood for Atlantic and Pacific. So I guess we lived in the suburbs. My parents bought the farmhouse from which the land was sold for all the other houses around it. I think we had at least an acre of property, so my brother got the chickens.

That meant we needed a chicken coop. My mother would never have called it a hen house! Uncle Max built a chicken coop. I think it was at
