Kip kinkel, a 15-year-old teenager, murdered his parents and then shot and killed 24 students at his school in 1998. The press reported that Kinkel had a history of violence towards animals: he had beheaded cats and dissected live squirrels .
Jeffrey dahmer, the notorious Milwaukee Butcher, murderer and cannibal, also began his criminal career in childhood with the torture and murder of animals. Many of these cruel practices with animals, such as dissolving their bodies in acid, were the same that he used with his victims later, to murder them and make their bodies disappear.
What can happen to a person in their professional or family life to become the dark side of society. The death of a child, business failure or a traumatic childhood can have irreversible consequences on someone.Children who witness domestic violence abuse animals two to three times more often than children who do not suffer domestic violence. The abuse of animals by children is one of the most important and early indicators of conduct disorder. Various researchers studied the relationship between serial killers, homicides and rapists and the torture practiced by these criminals against animals in their childhood or youth.
The offender is born or made. This narrative novel is a review of Jacobo's life from his birth until his inevitable entry into prison. A book to exercise memory, a long story consisting of inventing a story in which all the elements that had to be remembered participated, is an absurd story without meaning, but precisely this is what makes it easier to recall later.
CHAPTER 1. BIRTH AND CHILDHOOD
Jacobo's intelligence begins to develop from his birth. Sucking and putting objects to the mouth are movements that have been taught to the newborn to learn. Later, repetitions and scribbles were key to acquiring knowledge. And, as the little one grew up, so did the importance of games in developing understanding.
Jacobo's psychomotor development provided him with the necessary tools to experiment and explore the world around him. During his first months of life, Jacobo was not aware of the passage of time: for him there was only a constant present and there was only the world that he could perceive through the senses.
After the first semester, Jacobo began to perform repetitive actions. This is what was called a functional game: he took an object and repeatedly dropped it. He also said his first words, which consisted of repeating sounds: papa, mama, nene, tata.
When the child was around 18 months old, he began to like scribbling: with pencils, crayons or any other element that was used to draw. He did not do it of course, in order to represent anything, but rather played with the sensation of movement and the effect it produces on paper. He did it with either hand and taking the pencils in any way.
Little by little, gamesthey became more important in the life of Jacobo. And it is that having fun was essential for the development of thought. Children's recreation also went through different stages. The first, that of the solitary game. This stage was characterized by the need for Jacobo to manipulate and experience everything in his environment
, with the aim of searching, hiding and disarming; as well as movements to imitate that helped explore the body.
From the age of threethe so-called parallel game appears: Jacobo shared space with his stepbrothers but did not interact with them. He asked questions that he answered himself, and his entertainment lacked rules. At this stage, the so-called drawing with a name also appeared: the little one said what he had drawn, although, of course, his work was nothing like what the child says. The important thing about this phase is that there was an intention in the drawing and that Jacobo describes it verbally
. Telling what he captures on paper reinforced his ability to symbolize.
A little later, around the age of four, the game begins to bemore socialized. Jacobo interacted with his friends and with each other and fantasy reigns. He invented roles, stories, characters and, little by little, he acquired the ability to respect the rules for group games.
Sing songs, accompany them with applause or body movements, draw, read, or tell stories, etc. they are activities that motivated him a lot. The affection, thelanguage and play were the most important elements for the development of Jacob's mind.
When Jacobo was born, the couple became a family of three, the father often feeling a bit displaced. And this is almost natural, because the little one was able to create bonds of intense attachment only with one person, who used to be the mother, especially because he practiced breastfeeding. In fact, the better the relationship with him, the better the relationship with secondary attachment figures, such as the father, his stepbrothers, or his grandparents.
After the delivery, "the mother paid almost all her attention to the care of her baby and the father felt displaced, in a disadvantaged situation, and it was difficult for him to understand what and why is happening, this is normal and it also happened throughout the world. animal kingdom, since, at least in the world of mammals, the offspring always remain attached to their mother, who is the one who feeds them and with whom they made their mark at birth, provided normal conditions have been met.
The first weeks after the birth of Jacobo are difficult and sporadic sporadic breakups were frequent. The reaction to this displacement often took the form ofjealousy.
The important thing was to maintain the dialogue with the couple, to know how the other was feeling, to listen and reveal their feelings, their fears and also their wishes and their joys.
Over time, the mother got used to the new routines and, little by little, she was able to become interested again in her role in the couple, in enjoying it, without giving up her motherhood.
Each person is different and Jacobo was no less. Trying to follow pre-established instructions or guidelines regarding behavior orcare of Jacob it did not make sense, since what works or is effective with some, could not be valid with him.
From birth they were clear that each baby had a different need and rhythm: you just had to observe it to verify that it was not a machine that could be programmed.
Most of the JACOBO medical problems were those derived from prematurity and low weight.Jacobo's arrival was a life-changing experience for his parents. And, as thebabies don't come with an instruction manualunder his arm, there are many doubts and fears that appeared. The wish is that the development of the baby in the womb would occur in a healthy and normal way. When the father took Jacobo in his arms for the first time in the delivery room and saw him so small, so defenseless, he had a few moments of weakness and all he thought was: what do I do with this now?
, He confessed .
It was very different to see the upbringing of your friends, your aunts or neighbors, to face a little man of 50 centimeters who does not stop crying and asking for arms and food, his father confessed.
But they tried to do everything with love and responsibility, they came much closer to achieving it than not doing it. Accustomed to the baby demanding almost exclusive attention during the first days, new mothers and fathers may feel restless when the little one begins to have more quiet times. When the child was for a long time without showing signs of life, the mother came to check that he was breathing, both at night and during the day.
What was sought was to be calm, since there is no reason not to be, and not obsess. The passage of time and the healthy growth of the baby took care of the rest.
Crying was the most important way for Jacobo to express himselfand he did it whenever he needed something. Although there may be times when it seems that he never stopped crying, he tried not to lose his nerves and be clear that he will stop crying.
There were different techniques to calm Jacobo, frommassages until homemade tricks and sounds, such as white noise produced by certain appliances. As the little one grew older and his communication possibilities expanded, he cried less.
The impossibility ofsleep all nightIt was a common problem in the baby's first weeks or months, but it was not something that will plague parents for years. The nocturnal behavior of the little one takes hold, in general, towards his six months of age. From then on, the sleep-wake cycles were established, repeating every 24 hours.
They never worried about her getting sick, their fear had always been not tothe best for him when he was sick. They never seemed sick enough to go to the ER, but what if they didn't take him and it was serious? The way to deal with this fear was to always think:
I am his father and I am going to do my best. can. In this way, they acquired
the necessary security to make decisions with confidence. "
Jacobo was a very small and immature person, but a person. And as with all people, you had to take time to get to know him.
The darkness, separation from parents, death or fantastic beings are some of the most common fears of Jacobo.
During the first year Jacobo's most common fears were related to intense or strange stimuli, such as loud and unexpected noises or strangers.
Up to six years More specific fears prevailed, among which the fear of animals, storms, darkness, fantastic beings, catastrophes or separation from parents stood out.
From the age of six Previous fears disappeared as a consequence of Jacobo's cognitive development, new fears such as death, physical damage, illness or accidents were given way and, later, to social situations such as fear of ridicule, school failure or disagreements between parents.
Some of the actions that Jacobo's parents take to mitigate their fears were to create a pleasant and serene environment at bedtime and to avoid exciting games. The light was progressively suppressed, first with a lamp lit on the bedside table and then with a small pilot or the hall light, until it was completely suppressed when he had overcome his fear, they informed him of the dangers of approaching an unknown animal But don't create alarm to intensify your fear. They read him stories whose protagonists were the animals he feared, they helped him to get closer to the puppies first to mitigate his fear and gradually reduce the distances with the adult animals, it was important to let him observe the rain and tell him at the same time how meteorological phenomena work, playing to count the thunders and calculate the time between them and the lightning, they taught him to recognize as products of his internal world and to recognize that they did not pose any danger to his life. They supervised television programming and made sure he did not watch movies or series that contained fantastic images or situations that he could not recognize as unreal.
Crucial issue for all parents: Was it how to act when Jacobo misbehaved? What can you do to improve your behavior? The answers to these questions could be found at the end of a long road, but there are some basics that you should keep on hand. The main one, knowing that the key was, as in so many other aspects, in the balance: not to fall into the excess of permissiveness, which leads to little egoists unaccustomed to receiving a no
, nor to punitive authoritarianism, which could damage their self-esteem and make him believe that his parents did not love him.
However, the causes of the problem were not always the relationship between parents and child. Jacobo's behavior problems had their origin in the overprotective parents, who solved the problems that the child had to solve by himself. Jacobo challenges his parents when his needs were not met and he sought power. The process of these disputes: Parents repeat, they remember what their child should do, but with negative results. Then they negotiated, reasoned and lectured without success. The more they repeated, the more angry they became, until they ended up in shouting and threats, even in insults and slaps. When they couldn't take it anymore, they exploded by saying things they would later regret and inflicting disproportionate punishments that could not improve at all.
Over time,
The punishments were
