    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    CHAPTER ONE

National Security Headquarters, Carterville, New Britain

The shiny glass walls of the building seemed to be spinning wildly as Henry Marshall stepped out of the office of the country’s Defense Minister. He was disoriented. The conversation with General Randall had not gone as expected at all. The news given him by the General at the end of their discussion had struck Henry badly. He was suspended for attempting to pressurize the government of New Britain into serious actions on the international scene on the basis of evidence that was not credible.

Sir, I was trying to. . . Henry began to protest, then he realized who he was talking to. There was no point querying the decision taken by the General. Nothing Henry said was going to change anything. All he could do was to obey the directive he had been given.

Wills would now take over: Bryce Wills who used to be his assistant would now call the shots while he was away. It was all too shocking for Henry to process.

The glass walls appeared steadier now. Henry had gotten a grip on himself. Three weeks was not a long time. He would be back to his job soon, and he would just keep shut like other heads of units who probably knew one or two things about the dark acts going on in Germania as well.

Henry cast a glance at his reflection in the glass wall. His hair was lower than it had been when he had just
