Author

Danny O'Hanlon

Danny O'Hanlon is an Irish writer/comedian/musician/podcaster currently moored in the far reaches of rural Meath. He produces a magazine of short fiction, music writing and poetry called Street Apples Magazine (where an early version of this story first appeared|). His ability.for self- promotion is non-existent, but he's okay with that, as being famous sounds like it would be very demanding of his time.

    Street Apples Magazine - Issue 2 - Danny O'Hanlon

    Introduction

TO THE EXACTLY ZERO OF YOU who downloaded the first of these magazines - welcome back for issue two! It’s my own fault, really. I didn’t share it anywhere, so it was unlikely that a hoard of fans were going to hear the name Danny O’Hanlon on the wind and be inexplicably drawn to my Smashwords page. Never mind. I didn’t get into this game for fame. Luckily.

I put out the first issue of this as more of an experiment than anything else. When the first lockdown hit back in April, I had fancied that I would finish some music that I was working on and put it on my similarly undisturbed Bandcamp page. But I wasn’t able to use the solitude of lockdown to be productive. I was working full-time from home, so my time was limited, and I found more comfort in trying to perfect the home-made pizza than in pretending to be Robert Pollard.

During this time, I did manage to write some articles about some of the things I was obsessed with during this time - namely Lou Reed and dodgy made-for-TV movies starring Elliot Gould. I threw them together with a short story from my vault and put it out as a self-publishing experiment without really telling anybody.
