PART ONE: PROLOGUE

The air was cool and crisp for a summer night in Los Angeles. The full moon as it illuminated the sky oddly seemed bigger than one could imagine.
Dr. Faith Little felt like a ton of bricks was dangling over the top of her head, and she has simply had enough! Her day was tiresome and agonizing and there was no vacancy left in her mental space for any more details, dilemmas, or drama. She barricaded herself behind the fortress of her thoughts and she decided to stay there until a knight appeared before her to whisk her away. As she fantasized about this knight dressed in a Hugo Boss suit because this was not ancient Greece, she tried to push all of the day’s stressful events out of her brain.
Dr. Little worked in the emergency department of St. Angeles Medical Center, a small community hospital. She treated all kinds of patients, so she became very skillful with the emergent extraction of splinters, masterful with the removal of items lodged in nostrils, ear canals, and other small body orifices. She also became quite dutiful at abolishing symptoms of the common cold. She tackled aches and pains, fevers and chills, sniffles and coughs. But to no avail… day in and day out, Dr. Little answered the call of duty. Patients flocked to her to fix it, cure it, relieve it, or make it
go away.
Faith sat outside and soaked up the smog-filled Los Angeles night air. She admired the twinkling of Hollywood as the backdrop. She took a glance at her watch and started to gaze into the distance as she wondered when her knight was going to appear.
