My Crochet Animals - Isabelle Kessedjian
Introduction
All the creations in this book come from my childhood and the memories I have of it: my love for animals, my numerous stays abroad or in the Aveyron region of southern France where I used to play in secret in the cornfields.
I was brought up by my two grandmas, who both taught me a lot. My Armenian grandma taught me how to sew and crochet so I could bring life to amazing fabric or yarn patterns. With my Aveyronnaise grandma I spent hours by the fire crocheting, although her approach was different. With her, I began to understand that the world around me was a fantastic source of inspiration!
I remember a day when I went for a walk in the forest, taking with me all my crochet materials. As I was about to get to work, I realised my favourite crochet hook was missing. I didn’t want to go back to the house to pick it up and had a much better idea instead: I was going to create one! With my small pocket knife I cut a branch and meticulously whittled a little wooden hook with which I created my very first comforter.
Today, a mummy to two boys, I have written this book thinking not only of crochet fans but of those who just want to please the little girls and boys in their life. To make a character with your own hands and see your child become attached to it, play with it, laugh and develop their imagination and even fall asleep with it, fills me with emotion.
Through this book I wish to pay homage to my mother who left me far too young but who is always in my heart.
Mummy, I love you, this book is for you.
